Recommendations on a head gasket.

I've researched and i'm thinking of either the Impala .029" or the MrGasket 5716 .026". The car has no deck work to the block and the heads were only milled enough to get them nice and flat. I'd say no more than .010". Which would you run? I'm leaning toward the MrGasket 5716 to get a little more compression and get some more quench out of it. What do you think? I'm running ported heads with 1.7 ratio roller rockers on the stock cam.

If you get the Mr. Gaskets make sure to buy two sets. Both sets I bought the top gasket was ruined by the packaging. Some run them as is, some don't.. I chose not to.

I hear some people are having no problem with them..... it's hit and miss as far as I can tell.

I have had 3 sets in a row, two were bad, one not opened. On the non opened one you can already see the gasket material coming up.

The third set was straight from Mr. Gasket, so it wasn't old store stock. If you're not in a hurry just get one set and order another set if u need to later.

No hurry at all. Stock deck height is around .020" while stock gaskets at .051" correct? I'm trying to figure out what my new compression ratio would be if I went this way. .020" deck height, .026" gasket, .010" milled on 54.5cc heads.

Just like Javier97Z28 said... "go with whatever gives you better quench, just advising on the situation"

But i have never been a fan of Mr Grasket.. just because of the reasons listed.. I have never had any issuse with Fel-pros.. but thats just me..

Now onto the quench.... i'm not sure exactly how to find which will give me the best. Is there an easy way to figure it?

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

I'm getting a 12.4:1 compression ratio with the Mr Gasket 5716s.... I think that may be a little high for pump gas. Should I am for 12:1 or a little less?

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

eeeh, how are ya getting that figure...

stock deck height w/ the mr. gasket and a minimally shaved head gets you about 11:1

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

Cylinder head Volume (CC) = 54.00
Piston Top Volume (CC) = 0.00
Cylinder Bore (Inches) = 4.0
Cylinder Stroke (Inches) = 3.75
Deck Height (Inches) = 0.030
Head Gasket Thickness (Inches) = 0.039

Computed Compression Ratio is 12.3 to 1

I'm sure the stock piston has some volume to it.... anyone know it... thats probably why im getting bad numbers.
