LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting?

Lloyd says peak power is going to be around 6500-6600. I have a stock 4 bolt main short block with 100K miles so I don't want to spin it to high and have a bearing go out. It wil have all new top end (Pro Mags, Hi tech pushrods, CC lifters, etc.) It will only occasionally go near the rev. limiter, but I do want to have it set for max. performance if needed, and was also wondering were is the best shift point? M6 3.45 rear

I think mine is set around 6800.. I shift rather close to that also.. stock tach says about 68 to 7000 rpms.

If you are reluctant to spin it to power peak or a little above, why go for the LE2? Consider a smaller cam which peaks power around 6000. There are in-between options. Lloyd will help you out here.

IOW, if you ain't going to twist it where it likes to make power, back off on the package.

Re: LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting?

I already have the cam, and heads and intake will be in soon. I will spin it there when I need all the power(daily driver), that is why I want to know where people are shifting and what RPM is best for rev. limiter. I guess I included the other info. to get peoples opinion on the longevity of 6500+ rpms on a 100k motor., and also their experience with similar set-up. I don't like back tracking, so I didn't want to go smaller cam etc. and then waste time and money going bigger later, because it wasn't enough. I will replace the short block when it need it with a forged stroker, but I want the current short block to last as long as possible.

Re: LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting?

I can only tell you what Iv'e personally seen , and that's that Iv'e seen quite a few what I consider pretty high mileage (over 90 thou mile) factory bottom end LT1's spin bearings between 6600 to 6800 RPM's.......so If your REAL concerned with longevity on your current set-up, I'd set it to shift at a "true" 6400 or 6500, even though it will be slightly less than ideal for your cam, and hope for the best........for me (like OldSStroker mentioned) the better option was to go with an inbetween LE (1 and 2) cam to make "very" similar power to the LE2 cam, but peak a few hundred (plus) RPM's lower to help the bottom end live as long as possible while the forged 383 goes together.....good luck with it...........Joe

Good luck on the stock bottom end with those rpms. My stock bottom end w/ 20k mi on it lasted 1 MONTH before i spun 1 main and 4 rod bearings w/ an LE2

We have worked on the newer LE cams to move the peak down some. You can shift it at 6400-6500rpm with good results.

Re: LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting

Limiter set at 6900rpm, and i try to shift at 6700-6800 thought admitedly i have seen 7000 on the 1st to 2nd shift a time or two. Peak power occurs at 6200 and holds to 6600. Of course im using ARP studs in a fresh shortblock and i have the high pressure spring in the oil pump.

Limiter set at 7200 rpm. Peak power is 422 rwhp @ 6600 rpm through a 700R4 with a 3200 stall and true duals. LE2 heads and cam.

Previous to this I had 378 rwhp with home ported heads and a 230/236 cam.

Re: LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting?

i thought the stock ecm is only good to 7000 rpm i was told. I have my limiter set @ 6800 w/ my mail order tune just to be a little conservative on my new slug. J/W as i just worked out most of the glitches now i'm about ready to get it dyno tuned

I had my rev limmiter removed...hell it cuts fuel, is that really what you want at 6k+rpms?

Re: LE2 guys, what are you setting your rev. limiter at and what RPM are you shifting

With my LE2 heads and CC503 I was shifting at 6200. With my new shortbock and my lower duration LE2 cam I will shift at 6400 with a 7000 rpm rev limiter.
