Random Technology Issues
Random Technology Issues
I purchased the Random Tech to replace the stock pipes because my cats went bad and I needed to pass IL emmisions, now I have a leak at the cross over header that I did not have before.
I am getting a new corss over, but do not know if it will fix it.
Anyone else with these issues on a 97Z LT1. Stock Manifold and headers.
The stock gasket was used we are looking for another type this go around. It seals up for about a week then blows out on the block side right by the strange shape cut in the flange.
Help is greatly appriecated. Otherwise unit was great. And it did pass emssions in IL with 138,000 miles on the motor.
GO GM!!
Thanks
Michael

Are you saying that the flange gasket keeps leaking? I'm having a hard time understanding where your leak is. What's a "Cross over header"?
If you are talking about the flange gasket, get the GM replacement gasket instead of an aftermarket one. The GM gaskets are more expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.
Thomas.

random tech
Thanks for responding.
Sorry the random tech cross over pipe that connects to the stock header leaks. Yes I used the GM gasket with the metal ring and it causes the leak on the right side as it is in the air. The leak hits the driver side of the motor right at the oil pan.
Any other gaskets? Random said they have never had this issue I can't beleive that.
Thanks
Michael

I went to Napa and got some gaskets, if I remember correctly you are looking for some donut gaskets? Just know what size you need, tell them and they can look it up. Tell them you want the softest gasket they have. I have 2.5" gaskets on my headers, softest I could find and even after loosening and putting it all back together three times they still seal.
He doesn't have headers, so 'donut gaskets' won't do him any good. He's having problems with the driver's side factory manifold flange sealing to the Random Technology Y pipe.
If your Y pipe has a defect in it on that flange, then just wait for the Ramdon Tech replacement to show up and hopefully that will fix it. I did get your e-mail, but my ISP is having problems and I cannot send e-mail out for some reason?
As far as having problems with my RT Y pipe, it is leaking on the driver's side flange like your's is; but I used a cheap aftermarket foam/paper gasket on it. I picked up a GM flange gasket yesterday, but haven't had a chance to work on it yet. I'll probably end up replacing the gasket either Wednesday or Thursday night. I'll let you know if it begins to leak again with the GM gasket.
I hope your issue is in fact due to a manufacturing defect, otherwise I may be experiencing the same problem.
Let me know how it works out for you,
Thomas.
