Question about cam lift

wondering what the differences between a 224/230 cam with a .536"/.544" lift and a 224/230 cam with a .502"/.510 " Also would you suggest a 224/230 or a "306" with stock heads Thanks

Its the same cam.... the low #'s are with 1.5X rockers, the higher with 1.6X rockers.

What engine are you talking about, so we know what "stock heads" are?

That way I can direct you to the correct tech forum.

If both cams have the same duration @ .050 and are rated with 1.6 rockers the one with more overall lift will be a little more agressive with more duration @ points above .050 lift. The more agressive lobes will usually make more power until the point where you loose control of your valvetrain. The cams your talking about probably arent drastically different but the one with more lift could possibly float the valves sooner or like a little bit more spring pressure to keep the valves under control. If you have enough piston to valve clearance, good enough springs and good enough retainer to guide clearance to run the higher lift cam I would expect it to make a little better power.

Info from the TR website:
63-224/230-112

Comp Cams "Extreme" LT1 Camshaft, 224 / 230, .502 / .510 112 LSA, Strong mid-range with good top-end power. Heads, Headers, High Stall or M6, Gears, Computer Tuning Required.

$249.99
Info from the CMotorsports webstie:
CC-TN-224XL

Comp Cams TN224XL Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .536"/.544" lift with 1.6 rockers, 112lsa. This cam is a very popular choice for street/strip cars because of its aggressive lope, great power, and street manners.

$247.97
Nowhere on the TR specs does it say it is with 1.6 rockers. If you go to the Comp Cams website, they show this cam as 224/230 .503/.510 w/ 1.5 rockers.

Still not convinced they are not just the same cam with different rockers.

In any case, LT1 cam selection belongs on "LT1 Tech". Moving it there.......

I think in this case, they are talking about the same 503 cam. But, Comp does make three different lifts in the XE series for 224/230 duration cams. At that point, you are into customs, but the lobes are there in the library.
