Re: Put LT's in, car is not faster

Ok, I have a few things to say. I went to the dodge dealership and covered the AIR holes, race my friend on the way home from the dealership (he followed me) and pulled him pretty hard. I know the headers had more in them (letting the PCM get better adjusted to them, adding exhaust for back pressure) but I was pleased with how bad I beat him.

now on to this

The thread starter spun his rod bearing the same day this thread was started, no wonder his car wasnt faster, he forgot to put the oil back in
I put oil back in the car. I did not spin the bearing on the same day, either. It happened the next day. I was driving the car, and it started knocking, then it started running rough as crap and the oil pressure guage went to 0. Got it towed home, and it is sitting in my driveway on ramps. I believe either the oil pump went bad, or the oil pickup tube came off (maybe from the vibration of open headers?)

Anyways, I will be taking the oil pan off tommorow to see exactly what happened.

BTW, the headers really were a great mod. I could really feel the diference after I got the car running right.

That sucks to hear about your motor. I hope it isn't damaged too badly.

As far as headers being a worthwhile mod., of course they are. I agree that good headers and a tune could easily be worth 20-30 HP, which is a decent gain. HOWEVER, You're not going to start blowing the doors off of cars you were previously even with. Sure, you may now s.l.o.w.l.y. pull them, but you're not going to "walk" them, especially from a third or fourth gear hit.

Roadrage - can you give any verifiable evidence of the 1/2 second gain from a tune on a stock car? That's at least 35 rwhp, and I could make a mint selling that tune. FWIW, I gained 40 rwhp from headers WITHOUT a tune. Trap speed went from 100 - 106. A 106 mph car will WALK AWAY from a 100 mph car, especially from 70 mph on up. My car dyno'd 260 rwhp when it was BONE stock with no tune. I would LOVE to see a BONE stock Lt1 dyno at 285 - 290 with a tune. Not saying it hasn't ever happened, but I've never seen it.
