With a lift and air tools I can have it out of the bottom in 2 hours.

Without a lift and air tools, My best is 2 1/2 hours.

Reason why I ALWAYS go out of the bottom, is because going back together is much easier if you use headers.. You can install the headers, wiring harness, transmission, all outside of the car and just roll under and bolt in.

Guys that pull it out of the bottom. What do you hook the lift to pull up the body. Do you have to have an STB to do it this way. I'm going to pull mine out of the bottom, cause I would much rather deal with that then trying to put headers and transmission on in the car.

guys who have taken the engine out the bottom.

How much trouble would it be to put the cradle back on so that the car could be put on a trailer?

would this take a lot of time to put the cradle back on and take off again to make it worth while just pulling it out the top?

One of the techs that I used to work with could have one out the bottom in 45 min. I guess when you do it everyday it gets to be easy.

I do not use a hoist. I use two floor jacks and jack each side up evenly, jacking one side some, then jjacking the other..I then use some good quality jackstands after you jack the front bumper enough to clear.

It is not the bad to put the cradle back in after removing the engine.

I pulled a 3.4 out of a 94 camaro at work. I swore never again would I pull it from the top, let alone a LT1. I dropped it out the bottom on my friends 93Z. Total time was probably less than 4 hours, I worked on it in the evenings after I got off work. Unhook the coolant hoses, trans coolers, A/C lines, harness, fuel lines, driveshaft, crossmember, shifter linkage, ABS wires, some two brake lines from the ABS unit, and a few other things, oh yeah exhaust. I lowerd the car with a STB, I don't think its ever gonna be the same again. I took the front wheels off, had the rearend on some small jack stands so I woulnd't scrap the exhaust tips on the ground. I made a 2x2 boxed frame, put casters on the corners, lowered the car onto that, un did the bolts holding the subframe, picked the car back up with a chaing going around the radiator support, once I had the body high enough, put the car on stands. rolled the engine/tranny/ k member out, hooked the car back up the the cherry picker, lowered it down to normal level, let the rear end down on the ground, and pushed the car outside and put jack stands under the front. My friend looked at me and said you're the smartest man I know. I just laughed.

Like I used to tell my ex girlfriend, in your....wait wait. I ment I think its easier to drop the engine out the bottom.

I pulled mine out the top tonight, total time from when I went outside to when I came in was 4 hours, and included getting the car to where it needed to be worked on (come-a-long and chain, one inch at a time, took atleast 30 mins) and a few phone calls somewhere in there. Also, include some time for trying to get the air compressor hoses ran right (didnt happen, didnt have air tools) Anyways, I think that was about the fastest I could do it, almost....forgot a bellhousing bolt that really messed me up for a few mins and the oil filter got hung on something one time too. Anyways, didnt even find what I was looking for so it looks like it was a freagin waste

I pulled and reinstalled mine from the bottom and will do so from now on.

Took me about an hour to have it back in the car (by myself, not including hooking it all up)

Taking it out was easy, but I already had the heads off before deciding to pull the whole thing, so I dont know how long it would have taken me had I started with a complete motor.
