Spring and lifter change, need help ASAP!

Working on changing out my springs with the heads on the car, the compressed air in the cylinder method dosent seem to be working too slick, anyone know another way to hold the valves up while replacing the springs?

Also im getting ready to install my Comp R lifters, the instructions say install them with the "UP arrow" tward the center of the engine, but they have no arrow. They seem symetrical except for one small oil hole, can these be installed anyway or is there a specific direction they need to face?

Thanks for your help

Use a strong magnet and stick it through the port on the intake port and the same with the exhaust ports. press it against the valve thats what I did and it worked!

Crank the motor over to TDC on each cylinder, the valve will just drop a bit and stop in the piston. You can get to 2 cylinders at a time doing this, just have to figure which cylinders are at TDC at the same time. The side of the lifter with the roller on it goes down toward the cam if that is what your asking Other than that it doesn't matter which way they go in.

thanks guys, i managed to get all the springs changed with the $hitty spring compressor i rented from autozone, man my hands hurt from cranking that damn thing.

When i put the cylinders under air pressure, they held pressure pretty well, but i could hear air leaking out and feel it comming from the front of the oil pan by the crank pulley, is that normal?

And yes thats what i needed to know about the lifters, i knew which end was up, just wasnt sure if they needed to go in any specific way.

Thanks again

The rings don't totally seal, so yes, some air will escape when it is under constant air pressure from your compressor.
