problem?? please help

ok i got home from work in my truck.. got out and jumped into my 96 t/a and went to get my son from daycare...left the car running while i was there and then went to the post office and shut off the car...i kinda noticed it was missing maybe or stumbling a little bit but didnt pay it any attention cause i just thought it was cold....well i get out of the post office and try to start it and all it did was crank...crank crank crank...walked home and got my truck and came back..still just cranked...finally got pissed off with it and floored the gas while tryin to start...it would try and act like it was gonna start and nothing...so finally got it started by holding the pedal to the floor and got it home...shut it off and wouldnt start back up...any idea's..the car has a new msd opti spark on it..well at least thats what the guy said..anyone had any similar problems? any help would be greatful

you need to do some checking first and come back
compression
fuel
spark

check fuel press at the rail with key on engine off....
crank it and check spark...

When you hold the throttle to the floor while cranking, it puts the PCM in "clear flood" mode, where the PCM siugnificantly reduces the fuel flow, to clear a flooded engine. Since it started with your foot on the floor, it would suggest something is flooding the engine. A leaky injector might be the problem.

You might also want to have it scanned for codes. The most common "no start" problem from the Opti is loss of low resolution pulse from the optical sensor, and that will set a diagnostic code, but not necessarily turn on the SES light.
