just put the switch in, it is all you need

It will run cool even at idle not moving.

OK, you DO NOT need programming to take advantage of the thermostat. Its a f*cking thermostat, not a rear gear! All you need to do is drive, so there's air coming across your radiator. Idling is ALWAYS rough on your car. Also, you may have air in your lines now. You can just use the bleeder screws on your coolant lines. Shoebox has pics on his site. Super easy to do.

well if you want it to function properly

then get a reprogram or a fan switch for the 160 thermostat

Alright, I'm liking the SLP version. It has a manual turn on, that from what I can tell the other does not have. Anyone know of a guide to install these? Or is it pretty basic?
It's pretty much plug and play. You will have to run the switch wires into the passenger compartment. Relatively easy to do if you go through the large grommet on the firewall that is under the pcm.

A fan switch or fan temp reprogramming has nothing to do with the thermostat functioning properly.

I think the SLP version is the way to go. Any input on that? I live in the Chicago area and the traffic here sucks and I feel terrible when the temp gets that high, I actually turn the heat on when it gets that high. This maybe the solution. Where does it plug into?

Putting the heater controls in one of the A/C positons will also turn the fans on. No need to turn the heat on and cook yourself.

I run the SLP fan switch and it hooks up on the passenger side of the car under the hood. very easy to do . but I have the car progamed to run cooler and only use the switch when I am at the track to cool the car with the elec. WP. it will kill the battery real quick if you use it on high without the car running. The cars were made to run in the 220 range for emissions so getting there isint going to hurt the motor just power.

The only time I would use it is when the temperature starts to rise, mainly in traffic. So, is this a good idea?

sitting in traffic the...

fans will run on high till it cools and then switch to low speed fan, usually the low will be on unless it is cold out, so sitting in traffic it will cycle on and off the high speed fan, at least mine does, no need for a manual, good for the track after a run, but I let my cool down anyway till the high goes off.

OK I really don't like 160 thermostats because I believe that too cool is as bad as too hot!! But I would Get my PCM programmed for fans coming on sooner before I'd use a switch!! If you program it in, That's the LAST Time you have to think about it!! Plus the PCM can turn them on and off to regulate the temp with them on it's not going to be controlled. I would consider Programming. I used the stock Stat and adjusted the fans in programming.
