Is it possible to install my LT1 with my Hooker LT's already bolted on to the engine.

I know what a pain it is to install these with the engine already installed and was just wondering if anyone installed their engine with LT's already bolted up.

I think it will work if you do it from underneath.

Drop the K-member, and mount the motor to it and go at it that route.

It would probably be easier if you just had the headers in position when you drop the motor in and then bolt them up.

I am going in through the top and the only reason I am asking is that I have heard of people having trouble installing a couple of the bolts so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks

With the engine already out of the car, sounds like a good time to drop on a set of heads and install a cam

If you're installing your motor from the top, it would be very difficult to do with the headers attached. I was going to try that, but thought to myself, why complicate things? They'll be easy enough to put on since everything is stripped off of the block.

Yep it was a good time to do a head and cam set up and thats what I did ...
...LT4 heads and intake, Comp cam 306, rockers, all new engine bearings, KB pistons, etc. The only thing oringinal is the block, bore (due to poor machining over here), rods, and crank.

Now just trying to save any aggrivation I can.

Whats the part number on the KB pistons? I am rebuilding my friends LT1 in the next month and am looking for reasonablly priced engine kits.
Thanks

I installed my motor with the headers on from the top. I have Flp long tubes though. Don't know howw much of a difference with hooker. It was a little struggle but nothing major. I was able to get the bolt nice and tight too, so no leaks. Like everyone else fights about.

I believe the pistons were the hypereutectic model HB106+standard. Thats off the top of my head I will double check tomorrow.

I bought them off someone from the board ($100 new, not bad eigh)and what I have read they are for a 5.7 inch rod in a 350 SBC. I checked the clearance on them and I got plenty of roam even with the CC 306.

The thing you have to be carefull about is the top ring, because they are that hyper.... they have a different ring gap. Their website has more but last time I checked it was down. If you do need the specs let me know I have it saved.

Later
