How hard is it to put in lowering springs?
I did a set on my buddies 96 and it looked good. 1" lower got off ebay 100.00 for the set new. Not hard to install at all. Obviously just make sure you have the clamps to compress the front ones and a damn good impact wrench doesn't hurt either. He also put a set of the 17"ss wheels on it so it looked helacious. The car looks awesome and handles great.
Removing the front strut assembly is straight forward. The challenge is removing the hex nut from the top of the strut. Unfortunately these nuts get rusted in place and won't budge. An impact gun helps but doesn't always work, forcing you to destroy the shock shaft to remove the nut. You can take your strut assemblies down to a shop to have the springs exchanged, but they may also have to destroy the shock to get the nut off. Just a heads up that you might end up replacing the shocks. Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks make a great combo to not only lower your car but improve your car's handling.
My '94 sits 25.75" in the front and 26.75" in the rear. I couldn't go lower with my 315's in the front on 36mm offset wheels.
If you're doing springs, change your shocks at the same time. Consider the springs, shocks and sway bars as a whole package in order to get exactly what you need. Try posting in the autocross/road race forum. My suggestion is to call Sam Strano (www.stranoparts.com) to get exactly what suits you and your driving style.

If you have the money then I suggest buying all new parts for the front shocks and just chucking the old assembly.
Mine were so badly rusted when I got the assemblies out that I just said screw it and bought all new stuff from GM.
It cost me a bit but I was not comfortable trying to reinstall those rusted hulks back in my car.

I too like the 1.5" drop. I do not have them done on my car but seen many TA's and Camaro's with that drop. It's not the easiest thing to do but yet again, its not that hard. Just make sure you take your time and do it right or you could run into lots of problems down the line!
