pinging problem between 1k-2krpm under load
i guess ill take the car to a shop on monday, thank you for all your info predator. Could it be a fuel problem, running too lean? And if the car only make that sound and loses power in 3rd and 4th in between 1k and 2k rpm, will the shops computer be able to pick it up or will i have to drive with the computer? thanks.
you will probably have to ride with them and point out the noise....when they put the comp on it ti will tell them if its running lean...i dont think so on the lean thing though........on that pingign does it sound like rattling does it stay in harmony with the crankshaft , camshaft remeber the cam turns 2 times slower than the crank so which is it in harmony with
hey, yeah, it does sound somewhat like a rattle. um.........as far as what it is in harmony with, i dont know. i does go tick tick.... tick tick.....tick tick, has no power and then it goes away when i either go faster than 2k or down shifts.
honestly, im not sure, but it doesn't sound like deiseling. As far as gas goes, i have 92 chevron in right now, about 3/4 tanks full. Ive never touched the timing, would the timing change? Do our cars automaticly retard when pinging is there? Sorry about all the questions, but your really helping. thanks
well we really cant screw with the timing it is done by the comp if the knock sensor is picking up knock it will retatrd timing and make you lose power .....have a diag. run on it and it will tell them if you are geting knock also it could be the opti going out dont take it that it is but quite possible like i said take it to a good shop probably GM and make sure they do a running diag on it and make the car do what you are saying....you will probably come out better than just putting parts on the car wasting you money
