PCM MAF problem

89 3rd gen with 94 LT1

Driving the other day, it sporatically lost power like it jumped tooth on the timing belt. It won't really go past 40mph, 4000rpm, or about 1/4 throttle without popping out the intake or dying.

Would it be possible to swap sensors off my 97 Tahoe with a Vortec 5.7L? It appears that both engines run the same electronics. This way I can check the MAF or other parts. I don't have scan software yet (if anyone can recommend something like TunerProRT) that would be great.

Are PCM MAF's voltage or frequency output?

The MAF sends a variable frequency to the PCM.
