I just installed my motor back in my 1994 Camaro LT1. I installed a LT4 hotcam kit. Motor runs great but the car appears to be overheating going up to 3/4 up the heat gauge. I tried getting the air out of the motor and seems to run fine for an hour or so then the gauge rises again. I installed a 160 degree thermostat. Any other suggestions what might be causing this? Should I just drain the coolant and start over again. Also I did have a leak in one of my hoses and fixed that problem so don't know if she got air from that or not.

 

re-bleed it....it's most likely your problem

 

What ratio of coolant to water are you running?

 

Did you get a 160deg t'stat specifically for the LT1?

 

I got a 160 temp stat for a 94 LT1 camaro hypertech I believe. I can't say for sure what my ratio to coolant and water is because my buddy did that but I will find out. Should I remove the temp stat altogether and run the car at idling for 15 minutes to remove any air??

 

if the fans are not set for a lower temp, it will never go down, or maybe a bypass switch to turn fans on.

 

Follow the air bleed procedure on Shoebox's page to get the air out. You can't get the air out by opening up the system and removing the t'stat.

I have a slp fan switch installed and they are working. I just went out and opened my 2 bleeders and ran it for about 10 minutes. there appears to be some air coming out. The car was over half on the temp gauge just idling. How long do I keep these bleeders open and if there is air will it cause the car to run this hot?

 

Ok. I got all the air out of the lines last night. Took if for only a 10 minute drive and they car appeared to be overheating again. I was just above the half way mark on the gauge. I ordered a new air deflector today from GM because I could not find the old one but will that make that much of a difference. I checked the lines when I returned and there appeared to be no air but just running hot. I have a new 160 hypertech stat installed. I guess I should remove this to make sure it is working properly? Any other suggestions on what may be happening here?
