Need help diagnosing a missing, running rich problem

A few days ago my car started missing as I was cruising. It seemed like it still had decent power, but just missed when cruising along. It also smelled really rich, when driving or idling. It was burning my eyes rich. It also seemed like it only happened once the car was warmed up, it ran perfect when it was cold.

Now today, I took it out for a drive. I let it warm up some and then took it out on the freeway. As I was accelerating on the ramp, I got up to about 3500-3700 RPMs and it cut out, like hitting a rev limiter. I got it to do it quite a few more times, always at this same RPM. I had thought maybe it was a sensor giving a false value and giving it way too much fuel, only in closed loop mode to explain the running fine when cold part. After today though, with it shutting down at that 3500RPM range, I'm thinking it must be an ignition problem? My opti only has about 30k on it so I hope that isn't the problem. Maybe the coil or ignition module? I'm sortof an amature here so I'd appreciate your thoughts or if someone else has had a similar problem. Thanks.

Adam

If it smells rich, it must be ignition related.
Sounds like the opti taking a DUMP to me !
