Optical Disc rubbing sensor

Ive been tryin to diagnose why my car randomly shuts off lately. The car will die and will usually not restart for an hour or two. I have replaced ICM, coil, plugs, wires, and the complete optispark. When the car wont start I am also not getting signal to the ICM, no movement on the tach, and no fuel smell. I did also get the code p1351 todayhowever i have checked all the wiring and it is good. Just a few minutes ago I removed the Opti, pulled off the cap and the metal plate under the rotor and reinstalled the rotor. When i spin the opti by hand i can hear the disc barely rubbing the sensor once per revolution. Did I find my problem or not?

PS it is an autozone opti and cap/rotor

Not many people have luck with Autozone units. You might want to try a GM opti.

Every Opti I touch first comes apart to make sure the optical wheel does not rub the sensor. If it does, it will damage the sensor. This usually happens cause the pulse wheel is warped. Take that crap back and get another one.

If the problem remains, get a GM opti.

I would go with an msd opti. I had issues with my original and used the msd. 10k later and a leaky water pump and it still goes strong.

Do a "Search" and read the feedback on the MSD Opti, before you jump to the conclusion that it is the greatest thing since the flush toilet......

It seems the best thing to do is get one that is closest to factory. Make sure sensor wheel is free and no contact, and locktight screws if no locktight has been applied (next to rotor). Most of the the aftermarket seems to use a lesser quality sensor.
