Question Is the opti or fuel pump on its way out????

Hi all. The '97 WS6 has 143k on it with the original opti and fuel pump. It started dying immediately after startup and wouldn't crank until about 10 mins later. Starting with the simple stuff, we changed the fuel filter. It stopped doing it for a couple of weeks, but now it has done the same thing twice. It also "cuts-out" while driving sometime (everything seems to shut down for a split second) and then kicks back in. It also stumbles a bit at idle, but I think it has always done that. It has an MSD 6A on it as well, and I know it's overdue for a new set of plugs. I checked the codes on it a couple of weeks ago and there was a low resolution code. Does anyone have any ideas? I hate to replace the one if the other is bad.
Thanks in advance,
B.J.

DTC 16 is the code for "loss of low resolution pulse from the Optispark". That code will cause all of the problems you are experiencing, since the PCM will shut down the fuel pump and the injectors if it can't find the low res pulse for 2 engine revolutions. You could check the harness connectors to see if they are corroded, but short of that, it may be that Mr. Opti is headed for that big parts dump in the sky.

I also experienced a similar problem. Check the ignition and make sure all the wires are properly secured and tightened, it may fix it, it did for me. Short of that you a a vented opti, which can cause you some problems if it is older and begins to attract moisture inside of it, the as injun said...bye bye opti.
