Opti died?,+cam swap?

I think my opti may of died. I pulled my firebird in the garage and went to fire it back up and it did not want to start. I checked all the connections and codes,P1371,P1441,P0300. The car has 124,xxx on it and it is the original opti. When i pulled the car in the garage it was running ruff and sounded like it was misfireing. From what i've read from searching about the P1371 code the car will act like this. The car just turns over and will try to fire sometimes. Since i'm changing the opti, i think i'm going to go ahead and put in a cc306 cam. What timing chain is a good one to get, plus a computer retuned. Would a oem gm opti be good, since it lasted this long, or would a msd of accel be better? Any help will be great. This is going in my firebird in my sig.

buy a oem gm the other ones arn't worth a crap. and if you plan on camming it you will spend more than you think to do it right. i did mine and spent around 2400 total, but that was pulling the engine, honing it, stall, valvetrain, bearings, rings, new heads, pretty much most of the sig.

you will have to retune the engine

I would just stick with another GM replacement opti. A PCM tune will definitely be needed and a good timing chain replacement would be the LT4 timing set or a Cloyes double roller. However, with the double roller you will need to convert to an electric water pump and do some clearancing to the timing cover.

I keep seeing people with a madZ28 tune, and i see you have one too. Are they a good place to get the pcm retuned? and a link to them or others would be great also.

Yes, he is a great tuner and one of the cheaper ones on the market. Another mail-order tuner is http://www.pcmforless.com
