Opened up the Opti Spark

Ok, I finally got the optuspark off anf got it open a little while ago. I don't really have any idea what it is supposed to look like but IMO it looks fried!! It looks like a little a peice of the rotor is missing and it even looks unevenly burned. Could this be causing my hesitation problems? Anyone have a pic of a good one? Thanks!

Yep, that will do it. I good one would look clean and silver. Are you getting any engine codes? That rotor is also the crank position sensor. I had this happen to mine a few years back.

Have you looked at Mike Chaney's OptiSpark Disection Page ?

He takes apart a 95, and some of the internals are a little different on the 93/94 non-vented, including a non-removable optical disc (it is tack welded in) and the shape of the internal cover, as I recall. But he has a picture of an intact rotor.

Thanks for all the ifo guys! I haven't gotten the rotor removed yet tio inspect the insides any farther. I expect it to look bad as well. It looks like the gasket is even dry rotted.

No mine hasn't thrown any codes for about three weeks at least...did yours?

Just curious, what kind of hesitations? Did it happen only when warm? Trying to troubleshoot a possibly similar problem here

It would do it about a half a mile down the road. Not really warm. I got the opti fully disected and the metal cover inside is entirely covered with rust. The rotor looks like there are small chunks missing from the bottom and it is very burnt. And the best part, under the actual distributor is chunks of stuff. Looks like it shredded parts of itself but I dont know...
