Oil Weights and Ratings

Does anyone know if there is a webpage that says what weight oil to use during certain seasons??

I think the recommended for F-Body's is 5w30, but I see alot of people running 10w40 and such..

Cool

There is one, just can't remember where it is.I run 10-30 here in calif.,but in the colder climates, alot of folks like the 5-30 for start ups. Also, when the manufacturers test these engines, they get better mileage with the 5-30 for smog stuff and better mileage.Mycar has 104,000 miles on it,and I can't take the risk of 5-30,especially the way I blast it all the time.(I think the high tollerences have gone out the window at this point.)My02

I use the 5w30 in the winter, but in the summer here in NJ, all I do is drive and sit in traffic, so I go 20w50. I know thats a lot, but my family is made up of car people, and its what they use in their high performance Chevy's...

I use mobil 1 , 15w50 year-round, offers great oil pressure and since it is synthetic it is great in the winter too, starts right up first crank even when really cold.

If your car is stock the recommended 5w30 is the best choice unless you live in an extremem climate. Since you're in Indiana, the 5w30 though be fine.

I use 15W050 Mobil 1 for a number of reasons. My car is not run in the cold part of the year, it's always warmed up for 1-2 min until being placed under load, and it is setup with slighty loose clearances to take advantage of the cushioning effect of a thicker oil film when the nitrous hits. The better "shear" strength of the 15W-50 is an advantage here.

I've run 5w30 Mobil 1 in my car since I've owned it and it now has 149,000 miles. Doesn't burn a drop of oil. I've got no reason to change what works.

5W30 is fine in these cars, but you will need to pay attention to the temps that it is rated for. 5-30 maxes out at around 90*F, and from that point on, 10W30 is recommended. I used to run 5W30 and even 0W30 in my old Camaro and never had a single problem. If you have a decent amount of miles on your car, I would run 10W30 in the summer and 5W30 in the winter. the 10-30 will not harm anything, and oil pressure will be fine.

I just recently switched over to 20w50 to get some extra oil pressure. My engine is old and i beat on it like crazy. Plus its going to be 110 in Az this week.
