Oil pressure and fuel pressure questions

I finally have my LE2 setup just about working right. It really pays to find a shop that know what the are doing!! Pro-Tire and Auto in Bloomington IL fixed my engine.

Here is my question:

I have a Melling 155HV oil pump. Before Pro-Tire and Auto fixed my setup the oil pressure would jump to 65 for so when I started the car. It would settle back down to 40 or so when the car warmed up. It would also jump when I opened the throttle.

Now it stays at 20 or so when I start the car. It only jumps to 25 or so when I mash the throttle. This concerns me. The engine runs so much better now. It is like a new car! The first shop did not seal my intake right and I had unregulated air coming directly into the motor. I also had a random miss because my Delteq was not grounded properly. Because of these and other issues huge clouds of black gassy smoke came out the pipes when I launched hard. This doesn't happen now. Oh and my O2s and plugs were fouled.

Should I worry about the oil pressure? They did not do anything with the oil pan or pump. I run 5w-30 Mobil synth.

Pro-Tire suggested that I get a fuel pressure regulator because of my Racetronix pump and 30# SVOs. What pressure should my regulator be set at? It is at the GM stock pressure now.

Thanks guys... This board has helped me alot - a computer nerd - to get my LE2 going right...

Oil pressure sounds very low. You want approx 10psi/1000rpm. 25psi is nowhere near enough if the engine is capable of spinning in excess of 6,000rpm. Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to insure it isn't a bad sensor or connection. Many people recommend against using the HV pump with a stock pan, but that would only show up as a loss of pressure at extended high RPM operation, not at idle or simply opening the throttle.

You do NOT need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. When you had you engine tuned, the tuner had to know the flow rate of the injectors, and he only knows that if he knows the pressure the fuel system operates at, and the pressure at which the injectors were flow rated at. Once the tuner has the correct flow rate in the PCM, the last thing you want to do is change the fuel pressure and cause the injectors to flow something different than the PCM is programmed for.

Thanks alot for your response Injuneer...

Boy am I hoping it is a bad connection or something that will cause a false reading. I have already tested the new power of the engine a couple of times. If the oil pressure is actually that low, would I notice anything when I run it at WOT? I am really dumb with this car stuff. I am assuming that it would sound terrible and run bad. It sounds great and runs real strong so I am hopeful it is a bad reading. I do have a bigger Canton oil pan. Would that cause a bad reading? (Of course I had the pan before they fixed it when the pressure was much higher.) Could they have put something together wrong when they put the motor back in the car?

Pro-Tire has the fuel pressure set at the "stock" pressure setting. I will talk with Bryan at PCM4Less to see where he wants it...

Thanks for the great advice.

Thanks Injuneer...

Pro-Tire replaced the oil pressure sensor and that solved the problem. Once again CAMAROZ28.COM has come to the rescue.
