What are you "angry" about? What info are you looking for beyond what was posted above? I can't help you with welding in baffles, because I never did that.

what makes me angry is that everyone solution is go spend 300$. What did you do to the stock pan? Anything? If you didnt weld baffles in, then wow I guess my intake tube just will NOT stay in the oil pump. I have pulled the pan 4 times now to put it back in, last time it was tacked all the way around, I guess I just need to get it brazed on all the way around? I cant believe you have no baffles... What windage tray are you using?

edit: Milodon double diamond windage tray - is this what you use? I Just saw this earlier in the post when re-reading post

Injuneer, curious about what you used inside the stock clearanced pan as well.

I am all about saving money if i can, and if you have done this successfully as well as others, I am all for taking the tips. (I will be running a compstar crank on the 383)

Stock pan. Hammered very lightly to clear the crank. Modified stock windage tray (not sure how it was modified, since when the engine was going together, I was working in Italy and only got back to the US about once every month or 6 weeks). I know its not a new one, since there's nothing on the invoice for the tray, and they told me all they did to the pan was hammer it a little.

Are you saying that your oil pump pickup tube is falling off, even after you tacked it in 4 places? Again, blueprinted stock pump, white spring and tack-welded pickup tube. Not sure why choice of oil pan or what you did to it would cause the pickup to fall off the pump.

Same setup use on a 1,125HP LT1. Owner was happy he had the stock pan, since he went through at least 3 of them dropping the front end too hard after 4-ft wheelstands.

perfect, thanks for the advice. I have a stock windage tray but had no clue it had a chance of working. I will see what kind of clearance I can get on it and get that intake tube to STAY IN (might just buy new pump/intake tube pre-welded through Jegs).

it sounds like it has a chance of working for near free, and that is all I needed to know.

thanks

The Miloden oil pump comes with a fastener to hold the tube to the pump.

Just finished my 385 stroker. Stage two 6" rods with cast eagle 383 crank. I used my stock oil pan. And stock Windage tray. I needed to modify both but they work just fine. I had to bang out the oil pan with rubber hammer and make a small indentation in the windage tray to get the rods to clear. I agree on saving $300 bucks. Thats why I didnt get a new pan. not worth it to me.

Check the install height on the pickup BEFORE you bolt the pan in place.

ok, well it turns out, all of the jegs oil pumps with the intake pre-welded are high volume pumps. This will not work. Does anyone know of another place that offers an oil pump intake tube that somehow fastens to the pump? I am in desperate need of buying one today. If I cant find one, I am tempted to get a solid weld all the way around but when I dropped the oil pan last night I realized that the welds didn't even stick to the cast iron at all. I am thinking of somehow bolting the intake tube to the cast iron (if possible). Is there a pump that anyone knows of that is meant to have the pickup bolted to it? And also, what is the easiest way to check the install height of the intake tube, or what do you measure from the bottom of the block to bottom of intake tube? thanks again for the help, I hope this time it doesnt pop off, because I am sick of dropping the oil pan (even if I can do it now in 40 mins).

I am trying to find a good oil pump that will work with the stock pan. I am scared because of castings breaking with the melling pumps, and have read for a while on them, but still confused. Is there a standard pump that will be acceptable without having to worry about the pickup snapping off with part of the casting? I am trying to go with something stock, since i am using stock pan.

Based on what i have read to install the pickup tube you should...

1.Put tube in pump so the tip of the tube is only slightly inserted.

2. install the oil pan like you would normally

3. remove oil pan carefully

4. mark your pickup tube at the height that it was pushed in by the oil pan.

Melling Select series, part # 10554 is standard volume. Pickup bolts to the pump on those.
