Question: What else is needed to run the Milodon pan? Can I re-use the stock dipstick and a stock replacement gasket?

Canton is a great oilpan, but with long tube headers you should cancel the "low oil sensor" ..
My Kooks Lts (actually the left one) touch the stud that I replace for "low oil sensor".

Stock pan is fine for a stock oil pump.

I put a high volume one into a stock pan and it sucked it dry at the top of 3rd whenver I did a burnout first.

Yes, and yes.

Stock dipstick tube needs to be cut at the bottom to fit... OR.... you can shave down the inside of the pan.. I opted for cutting the dipstick tube. As far as level goes.. I know my car takes 5.5 quarts.. so I just go by that...

You lose the oil level sensor, and you need to do some trimming of the factory braces... I had to grind down the edge a bit to fit the knock sensor. No biggie.

383, stock pan, stock replacement pump. chevy designed anawesome pump for the small block. i watched a build on a 650hp monster rat and they actually suggested not going with a hv pump or aftermarket pan unless you just wanted it to look good...which they did because it's tv. but they still used a stock oil pump.

The pan was stock, the windage tray was not. I have the same setup.

I'm also running a stock pan with a louvered Milidon windage tray. The pump is a More performance blueprinted standard volume with the white spring.

It works for me too.

Re: Which Oil Pan for stroker?

If your going to use the stock pan, make sure you find some way to use a windage tray. If you don't, you will lose oil pressure when you launch the thing.

IMO, why would you keep the stocker for an expensive motor? It needs to be clearenced with a hammer (not just the bottom but the rail too), it holds less oil, and aftermarket pans come with better windage trays/crank scrappers anyway.

my 2 cents.

Because it works fine. Why spend money on something that isn't needed. You can not argue with 1,000+HP engines using stock pans..... if they didn't work, the engines wouldn't be lasting long and healthy lives.

Re: Which Oil Pan for stroker?

You guys have been very helpful so far.

Last question then!

What windage trey are you using with the stock pan? Will it bolt right in?

I guess I should sell my HV pump and get a regular one?

Thanks

PS that was more than one question, oh well!

Re: Which Oil Pan for stroker?

If your interested in running the stock pan do a search on Milodon double diamond windage tray.

The below thread covers a lot.

this same argument has made me very angry lately also. On my post no one wanted to say the stock pan was useable, and if they did say it was, they wouldnt say how. I have stock pump, pan, no windage tray. I am about to weld in some baffles in the oil pan, but if anyone can give me some direction (besides looking at the canton and going off that) that would be great. I know you guys think 383s are expensive and all, but my heads/cam 383 cost about 3000$ and another 300$ just isnt in the books.

I am about to put in a OEM windage tray and see the clearance issues with the big crank... with the windage tray/baffles welded in, anyone have any advice on where/how?
