o2 question

o2 question

i believe the lt1's came with 3-wire o2's. can i use a lt1 o2 in a 3rd generation? if not, i am looking for a 3-wire ac delco for a 3rd gen and i don't know a part #. help would be great

The 93 LT1's had single-wire O2 sensors. The 94 and newer models have 4-wire sensors. All the 3rd Gens I have seen use single-wire sensors. I doubt that you could use a 4-wire LT1 sensor, since the LT1 sensor connects 2 wires to the PCM, both a high and low reference signal.

so it is not possible to hook a 3-wire o2 on? i don't really know the benefit of doing a 3-wire set up over the 1-wire set up. can someone try to explain this. thanks

The "extra" wires are for "heaters". These use a +12V power supply to insure the O2 sensor stay hot enough to operate. If they get to cool (below 600degF) they won't work. With stock O2 sensor locations, you will be OK with single-wire sensors, but if you have to move the sensors away from the engine... e.g. with long tube headers.... you need heated sensors.
