New setup Dyno numbers

Got my new heads and cam in, went to the dyno last friday and here http://www.stlhosting.com/upload/ski...austindyno.jpg is the graph.

Mine is the blue.

Specs on the setup are...Lloyd elliot heads with stock sized valves, Brett Bauer custom cam (~226/236 & mid .550 lift), CAI, ported intake,#30injectors, LT headers, 1.6RRs, baseline PCM4Less tune

The other graph is a guy running basically the same setup but an automatic with a smaller Joe O cam and Larger valves, he has gone 11.7xx N/A with some weight reduction.

I hit the track and ran a best of 13.44@108 with a 2.24 60'

We couldnt run a datamaster log while it was on the dyno, but we did monitor it with freescan and it never pulled any KR, and the A/F ratio was right on...13.7 i think?

Anyway, how much more power do you guys think i could get out of this after more tuning is done? What kind of times would i be running with some traction?

Im pretty sure PCM4less has never seen a Brett Bauer cam, so i hope there is alot left in it. Guy at the dyno said he had never seen a N/A car with that kind of torque curve, lol.

You should post the air and fuel part of the graph.

But generally a good dyno tune will yield nice gains. What exhaust setup are you running? What headers, and catback etc???

Re: New setup Dyno numbers

Good numbers. Here is my dyno with Lloyd heads and a XE230/236 .544/.556 114LSA with pcmforless tune

383rwhp/353rwtq

When Bret did his engine simulation for the cam, what power and torque did he think it would make and at what rpms?

IF you hook like 1.8s you should be in the mid 12s easily
If you have some money get a Dyno tune and you might see about 10rwhp gain aprox.

Looks like you are running pretty lean. You want to be closer to 12.8 - 13.2 at wot.

Were those numbers through full exhaust? If so, a cut-out will help quite a bit and I'd expect you to pick up 10-15 hp with a good dyno tune. What were the conditions like when u ran that 13.4 @ 108?

Re: New setup Dyno numbers

first thing that pops out is the 60 ft times. If it is a 6 speed, you should be in the 1.80 range. If it is an A4 with a descent converter, you should be in the 1.60 range. Every tenth of a second reduction in 60 ft is "usually" worth about 1.5 tenths inn the 1/4. If you can shave off 4 to 6 tenths here, you will be running 6 to 8 tenths quicker in the 1/4. This is a good rule of thumb.

This would probably get you in the mid 12's with your current tune.

With those heads, that cam and your mods, I would think that you would trap better than 108 MPH. I would dig into the tuning a lil more. I would think that with a descent rear gear, you would trap in the 114 to 116 MPH range.

You can ask Justin how much a "re tune" helped his car. He was running 12.1 at 110 MPH with a base tune and after a re tune, he went 11.7 at 116 MPH. This is still using a mail order tune. If you can get some "hands on" tuning with LT1 edit or Tuner Cat, you might see more of a gain. Every car is different but this is a good example of how important a tune is. I am sure that it needs some more fuel if you A/F is 13.7. I would keep adding fuel until it slows down and then back up to where it ran its best. If the A/F is 11.5 or 12.3, who cares as long as it runs its best. Sometimes a tight LSA will put a lil un burned fuel in the exhaust and make the O2 sensor think the engine is rich even if the cylinders are running lean. It might actually need MORE timing if you do not have any KR.

Once you get the 60 ft down and find another 10 to 20 HP in tuning, you will be pleased with the performance.

Re: New setup Dyno numbers

Let me add, when I was making 368rwhp/336rwtq (similar power to you, but less torque) with a 3.73 gear and 2.0-2.2 60' i was trapping 114's all day in my M6. Something isnt right with your mph. I am going to bet you got some serious DA issues there. What elevation are you at?

Re: New setup Dyno numbers

The conditions were pretty good at the track that night, low humidity, about 70*, with decent track prep. Elevation is around 800ft.

The reason my 60's suck so much is im running a Spec Stage 4 clutch, and the stock rear end. Im afraid if i put some sticky tires on i will blow out my rear end, and i cant afford a 12bolt atm.

Im going to get some datamaster logs and send to PCM4less for a retune, since no one local does any LT1 dynotuning.

Im not sure what the AF ratio was, but Justin and the dyno operator seemed to think it was right on.

Re: New setup Dyno numbers

Thats my graph layed on top of his, as you can see I have more low end tq but he has a flatter tq curve. I will say my car was running rich(11.9-12.7) and is low on #'s right now. I'm starting to think it's because of a bad 02 sensor. Keep tuning and get a cutout man.
