New engine, new knock sensor? Guru's, I need advice...

I am buiding a 355 with large cam and heads, should I do the knock sensor and module? Would the old ones be ok? Also what is the harness that goes into the oil pan on the drivers side? A sensor or something. It got messed up when we were pullingthe motor out and I need a new.

As far as the knock sensors go, If you didnt fugg up the old ones I dont see why you would need new ones unless they didnt work in the first place. The harness you sound like your describing sounds like your low oil sensor. Its not going to hurt anything but Im sure it will throw a code.

Its only 20 bucks for a new knock sensor, might as well change while the motors out and its easy to get to.

It's not the $20. It's the $20 added up to everything else that just pops up while building a motor.

The oil level switch is not hooked up to the PCM, hence no DTC code will set. Leave the knock sensor (there is only one) and the module (I'm assuming you have the stock LT1 module) alone for now. After you are done, put it on a scanner and see if the sensor is responding correctly, and make sure you aren't getting any knock retard. Replacement would only be required if you had a problem with the sensor, or if you felt the stock module was allowing false knock to be recorded. If yyou have the moeny, make both changes now.... if you are running low on $$$, wait til you know you have a problem.
