Not just a selfish point of view cause I also bookmark LT1 Tech and read the top page every few hours or so at work!! Now people won't get the answers cause nobody really wants to go to all those forums. just my $.02
I agree with you

I believe a lot of questions get answered here by people just looking through the forum who happen to see a topic they are familiar with so they click on it and provide an answer. With several different forums, the number of people who view the subject of a particular topic will go down... either the tranny guys will stay primarily in the tranny forum or the guys who know about transmissions but are interested in other items will stay in LT1 Tech. While the tranny expert may be primarily interested in tranny questions, he may have just installed a particular brand of cat-back, for example, and while looking for tranny questions he sees the cat-back question so clicks on it and provides his experience. This may not happen with separated forums because he won't even see the cat-back question unless he leaves his forum of interest to check out other forums. If the forums aren't separated, you get both groups of people viewing ALL the topic subject lines which, in my opinion, increases the chances for somebody clicking on it and answering it.

I think a good example of this would be me I'm not much interested in transmissions or clutches... they are nothing but an aggravation for me So, I'm probably not going to very often visit that forum unless I have time and have already gone through the other forums I like better (which rarely happens). However, I do have a bit of experience with clutches and transmissions and sometimes do click on and answer those type questions in LT1 Tech because I "happen to see it" while perusing the other topics in LT1 Tech. That's just an example and I don't think I'm the only one who finds themself in this situation.

Think of the Lounge. If the Lounge were broken down into several different forums like, relationships, school, movies, friends, music, world events, venting, etc. I don't think the topics would be as "interesting" as they are now because they wouldn't hae the large spectrum of differening people viewing each and everyone of those topics and posting in it. I think the Lounge gets its interesting topics because there are so many people with different viewpoints posting in the same forum and in the same topics.

But, who knows? Maybe it will be much better! The only thing to do is just try it out and see how it works. There is no harm in trying it for a while and seeing what happens!

It seems to be working well. The discussions are "cross-generational", which is great.
