Post Stock Drivetrain worries

Any of you guys ever used the stock tranny(700r4) and stock rear end(7.5in) with a build engine. I am going to build a stroker and I have the cash for the engine but not a complete car rebuild. Will the stock drivetrain hold my mild 383? I'm looking for approximatly 350 hp. and Probally a little more than that on the tq side. All info would be appreciated.

Well, it depends on how you drive it!

I would say you'll at least need to get a shift kit, and do a mild build up of the trany. Iwould also consider beefing up the stock rear. It would probably cost less than a G to strengthen the rear were as a new 12 bolt would cost you about 3 G's.

Theres a site some were that had a "how to" type of article but I an't remember were it was. Off memory I think it was a girdle, axles, and welding the tubes to the housing making it one solid unit. There was a bunch of other little things but I can't remember what they were.

I'll see if I can find that site again.

Definately find out as much as you can before you do it. After I dropped in my new engine, I got a couple of really nasty "surprises". First, I found out that with my t-tops the torque from my new engine wanted to redesign my car. So I had to install sub-fram connectors, but alas, a little twisting of the body had already occured. Just enough to be annoying. Next, on the way to work, I was accelerating gently from a stoplight, when all of the sudden my car stopped going forward, and the rpms kept climbing. I had basically destroyed all the internals for my tranny, and had to go with a complete rebuild. Like I said, just find out as much as you can before you do it to make sure the rest of the car is up to it.

Yeah that is the kinda think i'm worried about.....sub frames will go in before the engine......i want to be able to take the tops out easily, and I hope the Tranny holds for a while till i can get ahold of some more cash for the rebuild.........

by the way how much would a 700r4 performance rebuild cost? estamated labor?

i actually rebuilt my 700r4 and have a 383 with a 100 shot on her right now.
The tranny rebuild was easy except stacking the clutches, had a guy at a tranny shop help. but otherwise it was kinda fun. now really much to them. i bought all my parts from raptor transmisson off the web, i bought new servos (3-4) servo they will sell did not work with mine. but kevlar band and clutchs and shell and 13 vain pump and some other parts. It's all on their site. I did not do a shift kit

That qoute doesn't include the Torque Converter thoguh. For a best bank for the buck Torwue Converter your looking at an extra few bills.

I was qouted about 1300 CDN plus Towue Converter. A TC for me is aobut $650 CDN.

All said and done, it will cost me about 2 g's or more. So your looking at about, 1700 USD for a good rebuild.

You can beef up the 7.5" for a lot less than a 9" or 12 bolt. Mine was running high 11's at 117 mph before I finally decided to switch to a 9" because of a new transbrake.

350hp is still mild for a beefed up 10 bolt.
