Most power NA passing emissions

Just curious..but who here has made the most power (rwhp) normally aspirated..and passed a sniffer test without paying off someone? I dont care if it would fail visual inspection. Stroker motors accepted. And of course..whats your combo?

Its going to be hard to get any valid info from this as every state or province in my case has different standards.

Understood, it would still be nice to know who passed what, where, and with how much. . I know each place is different, but I would at least like to know who passed what type of test, and with what power level and combo.
Hopefully some people with relatively high rwhp(370+ rwhp)N/A has tried a sniffer test, and passed without paying off someone. I don't have to go in for another year, and I am anticipating having right around that level once I get my heads hogged. I know a person that can help me pass if necessary..I am just curious.

Slightly off-topic, but worth considering.

If your state has **** emissions testing laws, but no roadside pullover tests like California, consider buying a second, stock motor / K-member / exhaust. When testing time comes, grab some buddies and some brews and have an evening marathon to swap in the stock powertrain.

Yes, I am nuts. But I've seriously considered it.

Re: Most power NA passing emissions

My 381 passed NJ rolling emissions when it was making 486flywheelHP (425rwHP through a T56, Street Twin, 3.73 12-bolt). Relatively mild solid roller cam (230/242 114LSA 0.590/0.590) running through dual 3" Carsound cats, and all emissions equipment (EEC, EGR, AIR) functioning. And that's with 78# injectors. Fuel and spark controlled by a MoTeC M48Pro ECU running open loop, with extensive tuning specifically to pass emissions. The shop that did the testing let me run it through the dyno setup with the system in "training" mode to verify it would pass before they did the official test. Of course they didn't fire up the 300-shot of nitrous on the emissions dyno .

Unfortunately, it will not pass a "visual" because of the dual cats, modified AS&M headers, and just a few more non-CARB compliant parts, and NJ has a roadside check system, where they set up on the side of the highway and pull cars over for a full visual and a rolling emissions check. The car is now "track only".

Re: Most power NA passing emissions

I should be up there, I have a Nu-tek 383 with ported LT1 castings, stock valves, all the bolt on mods. 2500 rpm pro torque stall, 3" steel DS, and Mser 12 bolt with 33 spline axles and true trac diff.

This spring im doing a custom Bret Bauer cam, with his valve train setup, and dyno tune. With everything working right I should be in the low 400's with all emissions and a CAT. I passed with a hotcam, and with this cam and some adjustment it would be similar to it at the time of emissions. Bret is awesome when it comes to criteria for a setup.

I hate the stupid roller.....

Oh and my wheel hp will never be as high as a 6speed/10bolt car, but at least it wont break!

wow..very nice. exactly what i was looking for. i havent seen any roadside checks systems in NJ..what roads have you seen them on? Impressive that you passed NJ! Good thing with my 93 speed density, its not an odb system where they plug it in to the car..so my shop just hooked it up to some other car and passed me. Most of the places I know..except for the official state run places, dont check visuals. They just run the sniffer, check most of the vital things, and pass you.

Anymore setups with good #'s and passed emissions?

Do you know the approximate specs on the cam? Is it gonna be on a 114 or so lsa?

Definately post up when it comes time for emissions!

Re: Most power NA passing emissions

At the request of bret i was asked not to give the specs out, but what I can say its a 180 degree turn from what I expected to be, to be fair, I didnt know the specs until I spent the money and bought the cam. But again I was not dissapointed.

oh I double read my post, my expectation of rwhp will be with out a CAT but when emission times come, it goes on. I got a stock restrictive one on purpous so I could pass. LT headers made the car go down near the rear driver seat which didnt help at all

Re: Most power NA passing emissions

Yeah, the problem in CT is that they have cctv on the test/testers that are monitored by dept of motor vehicles. Kinda risky to get somebody to pass you cause they're being watched.

Re: Most power NA passing emissions

I have a friend who does emissions and they only monitor some of the times, or if there is an issue with the car getting on the ramp. As for visual inspection I went back in march and got through with no issues, all depends on if the guy is doing it is being dickish for cat placement.
