many questions?

First off this is my first camaro z28 and i have to say i love it. However, shortly after my purchase the low coolant light came on at 80,542 but my coolant lvl is fine. What could be the problem? Also my temp is fine it has never even got over half way. Next question is I have a cold air intake, and a cat back system that is the only mods I know of. I want to know what is the best header for this car. I was looking at a set of dynatech long tube they claim to fit the stock location. I want the header to bolt up or weld into my exsisting exhaust system. My last question is I will have about 1500 dollars left after headers to put into the car any suggestions? I want performance without the sacrafice of daily drivability. Thanks guys.

Re: many questions?

well as far as the coolant light goes..your best bet would be to pull the codes..thats always the easiest way to find out the problem. My guess is that it is probably a sensor that failed or something of that sort. As far as headers go..hooker would be my suggestion, and why would you want to bolt headers into a stock y pipe?? IMO you should get hookers and their off road y and then possibly slp loudmouth or something of that sort to compliment the headers..If you wanna spen 1500 your best bet to not affect daily drivability would be to get some spray..you can spray 150 all day to that thing!! Ive got a set of hooker shorties emmissions legal headers ill sell to ya as well lmk..

Re: many questions?

The coolant level sensor does not report to the computer, so pulling codes won't help in that matter. The low coolant sensor is a common issue with these cars. A search would find hundreds of posts about it. You can try cleaning it or replacing it. A last resort is just to unplug it to get rid of the light, but you won't ever know if you coolant level honestly gets low.
Pics of the sensor and how to get to it are on my Tech Page.

Re: many questions?

well I meant headers and y pipe sorry. I didn't know there was thrown codes without the ses light on? guess i learned something new! Where do you guys suggest getting the hooker headers and y pipe? Also I don't know about the spray just yet. I am planing on going with a supercharger in the future. I was also wondering who has a decently priced set of drilled and slotted rotors? I have found some but they seem a little expensive (450 for just fronts) Thanks for the suggestions keep them comin.

Suggestion.... rather than put multiple unrelated questions into a single post, do a post for each one.

Shoebox corrected the bad info you got about the low coolant light. Not sure why "White 96 SS" even mentioned "pulling codes" because you can't pull codes for the low coolant light. As Shoebox points out, the low coolant switch is wired directly to the low coolant light... that's it. Either the coolant is low, or the switch is dirty or has failed.

As far as headers, you need to decide between short/mid-length designs which usually include a Y-pipe, and the long tube headers, which often require a custom or 3dr-party Y-pipe.

Go to the top of any page on this board, and look for the link to "Supporting Vendor Index"..... many of these people carry the various parts for our cars. Look in particular at someone like Thunder Racing or T. Byrne Motorsports. Check out the other vendors also.

Yes, before you add serious power, its a good idea to upgrade the suspension and dirvetrain, and add subframe connectors. But you can spray a 125-shot on a stock engine/car with little or no upgrades, as long as you get the correct plugs, injectors (for a dry system), timing retard box, window switch, etc. You might not be able to spray in 1st gear, because of the lack of traction.
