Yes you do have to take out the Opti to get the timing cover off, it has on different spline in it so it can only go on one way. The idle is pretty smooth with this cam.

Oh, I also have two tips for you. One take as many bolts out of the oil pan when taking off the timing cover and be extremely careful not to rip the oil pan gasket. The reason I say this is because I ripped my oil pan gasket not once, but twice doing this. And putting a new one in is no easy task. The next tip I have for you is be sure to tune the computer after the install. I have an automatic car, and the car was almost undrivable after putting the cam in, it kept wanting to stall out when in gear with my foot on the brake. You will not only gain power with a tune, but also alot of driveability. I had MadZ28.com due mine.

The LT4 hotcam kit is a good mild cam. But i wish now that i would have gone bigger.... So think about that before you do it. Now I'm wishin i would have gone with something like a cc306 or a GM847... My .02

Are you planning to do the STS kit or a supercharger kit?
