Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

Just give me a 93-97 Z28 with an LS1 in it and I'll be happy.

It's the best of both worlds!

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

My buddy has an 02 z28 with an SLP air lid and exhaust. I have the cheapest headers you can buy (pace setter $270 off ebay), $280 catback exhaust, $90 high flow cat, $30 ebay cold air intake. I can USUALLY beat him til about 80, and then he goes by. i'd guess he's maybe 2-3 tenths faster than I am in the quarter. I have a fully built transmission w/ manual valve body tho and he just has a stock auto so i'm sure that has something to do with it. I'm replacing valve springs and going w/ 1.6 roller rockers, and i ordered a thunder racing otvc wire set and some ngk plus (my wires/plugs are trash) so i'm almost positive i'll be able to hang with/beat him in the quarter. So if you count my valve body/ratchet shifter (which is all you would need if you had a decent transmission already, mine was toast) it's about $1000 to get an LT1 to hang with an LS1. When they start throwing on mods, you're screwed again but an LT1 is definately not a poor investment for the power you get.

and btw, my stock lt1 motor has 195,000 on it

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

My 93 T/A ran 14.25 with a built A4, 2200 stall, late model ram air hood with functional airbox and crane 1.6:1 roller rockers( stock 3.23 gear). With TPIS Long tubes, off road y pipe, no cat or egr, Gale banks from Y pipe back,TPIS 52 mm T.B., new o2 sensors, new Moroso wires, Adj FPR and ngk tr55 plugs went a best of 13.69@ 101...60ft 2.116. Spun the hell out of the tires. Now I have Nitto 555r drag radials, Lower control arms, polyurethene trans mount, and an msd Digital 6 ign. Haven't had it to the track yet but The tires do not spin anymore, they hook,I think the 60 ft will improve and I am expecting at least a couple of tenths. Next I have a cold fusion wet kit to put on, gonna keep it to a 150 shot, and subframe connectors. I am looking for low 12's. Then with ported heads, larger valves an a LT4 hot cam, I think my goal of 11's with a stock gear will be attainable. I also love the 93 to 97 T/A's look much better than 98 to 02's.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

Most of the replies from the "anti-Ls1" crowd all seem to be aimed towards the looks of the car, which as others have pointed out, is completly subjective. Although I agree that the 93-97 Camaro's look better than the 98+ cars but I think it's the opposite for the Pontiacs. I think the 98+ T/A's look so much more aggressive than the 93-97 cars. Anyways, I love my Lt1 but the Ls1 is just a superior motor from the start, afterall, thats why Gm replaced the LT1 with the Ls1. I really dont understand these ongoing debates with "L98v. Lt1" "Lt1v.LS1" "Ls1v.Ls2" Technology is always advancing and that's why these cars have been getting progressively faster and faster from the factory. Not to say you can't make your Lt1 run with or beat an Ls1 or any motor for that matter, but people need to recognize that these motor are replacements for the previous, hence better in many ways. But, to each his own, afterall, we're all on the same side right? So why can't we all just get along

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

Screw an LS-1 this is LT-1 tech.

The LT-1 is the last of the true 350's and I'd take an LT-1 over most engines any day.

So tired of hearing about LS-1 this.. LS-1 that. It's not superior to the LT-1 it just utilizes newer technology that allows it to pick up a few over the LT series. I'm sure if GM engineers wanted to push more hp out of the LT-1 they could have done so without thinking... but at that point in time 275 was considered to be enough for a sports car. As long as my 10 year old baby keeps wiping out 01's and up I don't care at all what's under the hood.
LT-1 = GFE ... Good Freaking Engine. I spit on LS-1 owners. Patooey! It's like the world forgot about the LT-1 because a new engine came out. Screw you LS-1 and screw you SLP for making the 93-97 Camaro damn near extinct in your catalog... and stop sending me your catalogues with your damned LS-1 junk in it. I aint got no LS-1 one under my hood... I got a good ol' LT-1 damnit! You got that!

LT-1 Equals last of the Pure Breeds

2001 six speed SS dynoed 308 rwhp showroom stock, ran 12.89@110/111 with only a lid and the stock air filter, rest of the car was factory stock down to the tires. I could see the car running a 12.99 with the stock lid.

That's very good David.

For the most part I veiw LS-1's like I view any other enemy. Mustang, WRX, EVO, Supra,Civic.... just another car on the enemy lines. When you come face to face with an LS-1 owner... it's no feeling of brotherhood like you get fro mother LT-1 owners. It's like they look down on you because you have the previous year engine.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

I agree with HeatMaker all those ls1 owners talk s$it about our lt1s. I know a couple personaly. And they can kiss my ask me again and ill tell you the same.We can biuld our lt1s to kick there as$es .But they have to drive a funky nose job reason for the last of the z28 cars around. And they will never look as good as us 93to97s owners. So put that in your pipes and smoke it. First impression is looks and we lt1 owners have it and will always have it. ls1 owner to the right

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

no question, stock vs stock the LS1 wins, but i must call BS on all the guys who have a friend's brother's uncle's nephew's cousin who claim stock dynos of 320 and change, hello, the C5 corvette which had a more powerful version with a bigger cam was only putting down 350 at the crank. all these dynos showing stock fbodies putting down 315 and 320 at the wheels need to be re-calibrated. 320 at the wheels is like 370 at the crank. no fuqing way in hell is a stock fbody putting down 370 at the crank. the average correct dynos i've seen for stock LS1's are between 270 and 280 on the 98-99 models and 280-300 on M6 2000-2002. anything more from a stock car is horse dung.

You seemed to miss the comedy of my post.

But in actuality I'm another guy who's tired of the LS-1 hype, when LT-1's have been doing the same for longer...be proud of what you have.

I remember searching one import board a few months back... and they were talking about the early 4th gen F-bodies with the LT-1... they reffered to them as "boats" then they praised the LS-1's as a superior car. And the irony is that most people think the same way when they hear about the LT-1 in later times.
