Ls1 to Lt1 battle
My buddy has a 1999 Z28 6 speed. He has a catback and a cold air intake. He took me in our best race by about half a car. My car is completly stripped and i have full boltons except for a electric water pump. I run 13.5 in the quarter on street tires. He gave me a ride in it, he wasnt spraying or anything. I was amazed at the difference in power between these 2 motors. Just thought i would let you guys know how big of a difference there was. Also, can anyone check out my post on wheels and tires. Thanks, i think if i had traction and a good 6 k shift point i would make just as much power. I have an A4 with now new 3.73s and its hard to keep up with him. Ls1= amazing :]

My car with below mods beat a 99 M6 with a cat back and CAI by about a length and a half several times. He's never run his car at the track but mine was there once and ran a 12.97. I'd bet if your buddy had an A4, you'd run even with him.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle
ls1 are superior cars stock to stock and bolton to stock even, but a heads and cam lt1 can hang with a heads and cam ls1 at the track. On the freeway above 100 might be a different story though

if you're running 13.5's thats about right. i've seen stock M6 or CAI/catback LS1's go that fast or faster. thats about right. and we've all seen what LS1's will do, but when you get to a certain point it doesnt matter what motor you have, just who puts the power to the ground more effectively.

I don't know, I've seen a few 93's that run like LS1s and a few LS1's that run like old tired LT1's.
My shop forman had a 93 6 speed that ran 13.20's with a intake, catback exhaust, and gear.

This is by no means an attempt to bash the LT1, as I drove a full bolt on 93 Z28 for 6 years, and had a 95 Z28 for 4 of those years. I loved those cars I am quite familiar with LT1 cars, and have much respect for them, but I am a believer in the LS1 after one year of owning one.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle
Pick up Jan 2003 of GM high tech and you'll find 2 93's in the 12's.
We had a LS1 that ran 12's with a few small mods.. But now we got anthor that runs 8.80's with THE EXACT SAME PARTS ON THE NEW CAR. We where able to pull all the parts off the car that ran 12's after a trucker ran it off the road and before the insurance got it.
My 93 was a turd, but then again my shop formans was fast and I have quite a few guys reporting back running very very low 13's with thier 6 speed 93's without taking the valve covers off. It just depends on the car. Anthor co worker was running 12.4 on a 230K mile 93 (stock shortblock, zz3 cam, vigliante and supporting mods, STOCK CHIP!!!) Not stock, but defintately anthor over achieveing 93 LT1.
Heck I had another 93 on the dyno the other day in Kansas city that did over 300 at the wheels with a stock LT1 and headers, intake, exhaust. It was a 6 speed.
The point, 93's aren't all special but it seems that some definately perform unusually well.

Here is a link to the cover...
I can only guess from the cover the cars in question weren't stock...
You are comparing apples and oranges at this point. Bolt on cars vs. stock cars. Unless there is some miracle car I haven't ever heard of, there isn't an LT1 that is stock, as it left the dealer's showroom, drivetrain, suspension, weight, etc... that is the 12s.
Please let me know if I am wrong.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle
In the same arguement your not going to find any truely stock LS1's runing 12's.. If they do it is a freak from hell. They have probally done it before, but what most aren't telling you is that htey have a gear, air lid, blah blah blah... I consider our first one a freak at 316rwhp TOTALLY stock with paper filter an all.. with that power it was a low 13 second car at best.
It took free mods, air lid, catback, and a hair of tuning to get it to run a 12.74.. the LS1's are faster, but the LT1 isn't inferior by no means..

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle
the big difference is the engine. stock LT1's such as the '93 were under 300 hp. the stock LS1's were between 320 to 330 hp, plus the LS1 is an aluminum engine while the LT1 is a cast iron block.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle
ill take the 97s 96 95 94 and 93s cause they look way better than the 98s and up hate that ugly front end they put on them love the lt1s better motors and better looking z28s
