GMHTP July 1999 issue (I believe)...stock '99 Z28 ran 12.89@108.

I don't consider that a "freak from hell" being that it trapped 108, seen a few stock LS1s in the 107-108 range and heard about alot more...and a few around 109.

All it took was good weather, a good track and a damn good driver (Evan Smith).

12 sec timeslips from a stock LS1s are few and far between though. However, I think a lot has to do with the fact that most people can't drive as good as someone like Evan Smith, they don't have a good track (w/ good prep) near them or they simply just don't wait long enough to start modding (ie 2-3k miles = not really broken in yet).

LS1 is an EXCELLENT engine!

I just "perfer" the looks of an 93-97, but thats my opinion.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

Stock for Stock any ls1 camaro will walk a Lt1 camaro. My buddys ls1 keeps up with my LT1 and like i said. He only has a catback and a CAI. Mine is so stripped, and i have full boltons, sept for water pump. Stock heads and cam but still. Mine is a healthy running 40k miles to. Anyone who knows my car says its fast, but his beating me by a half a car without hardly any mods is just increadible. I still love Lt1s though :] And when im done it will be a mean lt1 that ls1s will have a problem with, even head and cam ls1s. Leaste i hope :] Its allways fun to give newer technoligy a run for its money :]

I doubt there are many h/c lt1's running with h/c ls1's. Heck, there are several cam only ls1's in the 10's.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

Its a whole lot easier to come up with the 20-30 horsepower for the LT-1 than it is to repair that ugly LS-1 nose. I guess Chevy didn't really want to have the Camaro stay in production so they came up with that warped nose job.

Looks are subjective. I agree the 93 ~ 97 has a better front.
Motor wise, the LS1 is the better engine.
More horsepower, more torque, better architechture.
Look at a dyno of an LS1 vs an LT1, you'll understand.

Absolutley incorrect.
The LS1 was way underated.
There have been many LS1s dyno 300 ~ 320 RWHP stock.
Most LT1s I have seen are in the 240 ~ 260 RWHP range.
That isn't any easy 20 ~ 30 horse diffence.

Incorrect, I wish I could find the picture of the article of the internet, as I have seen it before, but even Musle Mustangs and Fast Fords have tested the a few LS1s, stock to the tires, to the 12s.

The issue I have in front of me is November 2001, they have a stock Stock SS that they tested to 12.96 @ 107. They said the last time they tested an LS1 it went 12.89 @ 108. Later in the article, they said track conditions weren't optimal. This is the exact quote from the article, "With any kind of air, the SS might have gone 12.70s or better. On stock Radials." Also, that car put down 321 RWHP on the dyno.

When I find the artcile, I will post it.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

just to add my .02. A buddy of mine with M6 02 firehawk, dynoed 321 rwhp 333 ft lbs Paper filter stock and ran a best of 13.1@109 aallllmost hitting 13.0 but I can't remember exactly how deep the 13.1 was, but he never got under 2.0 60's. That car was well beyond a 12.9 in stock trim. I have another buddy that has a 96 WS6 M6 that had full bolt on and with 4.11 geared moser 12 bolt and nitto's, cutting a 1.7 60 running 12.6@109 without ever removing the valve covers.

Oh and I concur with above statment, I was pretty sure Revvin Evan ran a 12.70 bone stock with that SS when testing the Bullit back in 01.

he said with just some minimal bolt-ons they were running close to 12's. no one thinks that an lt1 is gonna run 12's stock.

and the reason why the ls1 car feels so much faster then your car even though the 1/4 time is close is because your only trapping 101 mph. I think some stock lt1 cars trap that. With headers/weight reduction, and your mods..you should be running much better then that.

Re: Ls1 to Lt1 battle

I'm pretty sure it was a mistake but I beat a '01 stalled SS in the 1/4 a few months back.
