Low temp fan switch and headers - Interference

Years ago I bought a Jet low temp fan switch kit for my '95 Z28. I started installing the sensor into the unused plug in the passenger side cylinder head, and very quickly noticed that my SLP headers prevent using this location for the Jet switch - a tube runs directly in front of the plug. So, I used the Jet wiring harness and an adjustable Bourdon Tube temperature switch (the tube inserts into the upper radiater hose). It looked clunky but it worked.

Well, here it is years later and the temperature switch has failed. I still have the Jet switch and was wondering if there's another place in the block or heads that might work as an installation point. I looked, but I don't have to tell you how crowded it is under the hoods of our cars.

Before I buy another Bourdon Tube fan switch I thought I'd ask you guys if there's somewhere else that the Jet switch will screw in.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

A 95 Z28 should have computer controlled fans. The only two temp sensors are for the dash gauge (The one in the head) and the PCM (The one in the pump).

Only way I know of to change the fan controls is with a programmer, or an override switch, which would just run the fans constantly.

The JET fan switch is a thermostatically controlled over-ride switch.

But you don't need it. Have the PCM reprogrammed to the fan on/off temps you want. And if you feel the need to lower the fan temps, get a lower temp thermostat (e.g. - 160*F) so that the fans aren't fighting the thermostat.

Fred:

Thanks, that would be a much cleaner and more reliable fix.

Do you have a recommendation for someone to contact to reprogram the PCM for the fan?

Thanks?
