95 pos z28 won't start
Well we have a 95 z that won't start still, new plus wires opti coil, I gets spark and fuel. I've read a lot of post on here about all of these same symptoms, if you spray starting fluid in the intake it shoots a flame out, so I'm assuming the timings way off or something like that, any ideas? Thanks, Paul

Any mods, condition and mileage on your car, A4 or M6? Are you getting spark at the coil wire or at each spark plug? There are 3 ways for the opti to fit on a '95+, are you 110% positive you have it indexed correctly?
What's your fuel pressure with the vacuum line disconnected and does it hold pressure after turned off. Also check for fluid under the vacuum line to the FPR.
I just went through the exact thing with my '93, repaced the coil, wires, plugs, opti cap and rotor and it still wouldn't start. Today I picked up an ICM from GM and it started without hesitation, better than it ever had before. $207.XX after tax but well worth it I needed my car back.

I completely forgot to add we put a 93 engine in it, so it has the old style opti. It is completely stock, it is getting spark at the coil and the first two plus on the drivers side forsure. Checked the timing chain and every thing looks good, no excessive slack or anything.

Well more on this car, pulled the timing cover, timing chain in within spec. Put the opti back on and new plugs and ICM, now no start still. It is now throwing a Code 42 saying IGN SYS grounded? Im not real sure what this means exactly. Anyone else have this code and a solution on what it means. Thanks for your help, Paul.

42 means the computer is not sensing that the ICM is working. Could be the wire from the computer to the ICM is grounded, shorted or not making connection or the ICM or computer is bad. Do you get 1-4v AC on the white wire (ICM connector cavity B) when cranking?
