Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

I just pickup this 1994 Trans Am real cheap they told me they put a Comp Cam kit CC503 in it ran for a month before they started having problems said it just died drive down the street it had no fuel pressure and they said he thinks somethings wrong with the push rods
I got it home install a new pump and lines it start but ran like **** i took a couple rockers off and the ball under the nut are ground down to nothing left some are broken I bought a Comp Cam rush rod checker 7702 but didn't come with how to use it any info on how to check what push rods should be in there with this tool? You would think if it's a whole kit cam, timing chain lifters push rods and rockers springs it should all be right, Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

if you suspect your pushrods are the wrong length, you can use a "pushrod length checker tool" part number PRO-66790. when you put the tool on the rocker stud while the lifter is on the base lobe and valve is closed the tool should be resting on both the valve and the pushrod. if not, you need a different length pushrod. that comp cam pushrod length checker has a mark on it to keep track of how many revolutions you've gone. each revolution is 0.050". you can use that in conjunction with the PRO-66790 length checker to see exactly what size pushrod you need.

That being said, not sure how installing all new lifters, pushrods, springs and cam could fail so bad. i feel like it must be installed incorrectly somehow.

Re: Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

I did Find a video on how to use that push rod checker and the Push rods are right, Once i got all the rockers off i have 6 valve stems that are flatten and the rockers are just eating metal on those 6 spring retainers most likely I'm looking to rebuild the heads all new valves
trying to find a set of heads now.

I adjusted all the valves started the car for about 1 min, was getting No Oil to the rockers Psi was 40 at idle and went to 60 when i gave it gas about 1800rpm one rockers on drivers side got oil and had to shut off because it got on the headers and a little fire

AdsoYo i see you have a 1994 Trans Am from what i read those car should have Aluminum heads? the heads on this car are casting 10125320

I would take recommendations on what Valves to Buy Stock replacement

Re: Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

that part number is for cast iron heads. yes the f-body LT1s had aluminum heads.

The only valves I have experience with are the Manley stainless steel 2.00/1.56 valves that came with my Golen long block and my current 2.055/1.60 valves on my Trick Flow heads. I believe stock valves are 1.94/1.50. Not sure where you'd get stock replacement valves and also not sure what's involved to make the larger 2.00/1.56 valves fit stock heads.

Why do you have iron heads in your TransAm? They had to have been swapped onto the engine or someone swapped a whole b-body engine into that car. That adds something like 50 extra pounds vs aluminum heads.

Re: Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

OP

sounds like you got a car with several build issues when the PO did a 503 cam

your description of "6 valve stems that are flatten" and "rockers just eating metal on spring retainers" says stop.

Pics would help but it sounds like the heads need to come off and go to a machine shop for refurbish. You don't really just buy a valve the same size and slap it in on the old valve seat in the head...

Re: Little Help with Push Rods and rockers

When i pulled the rockers and seen that the valves were like that i did stop, Right now trying to find a Spare motor so i can pull the heads and have them rebuilt then just swap them out with the heads on the car now later i can rebuild the block to a 383 stroker either for the car or Maybe even my boat since it has a cracked block, I found a set of 12551561 Heads he says they are cast but google say they are aluminum what's better? Sounds like he wants to swap for a set of 1970 350 heads i have.
When it stop raining here i will get some pics
