Intermittent MAF trouble code
Intermittent MAF trouble code
While driving, I would always get an SES light. Sometimes after a few startups, the light would turn off and no record of them would be on my computer. Anyways I finally got it scanned at Autozone and it ended up being a P0100 code:
The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the MAF sensor. This code points towards a possible wiring problem, IE: short to gound, short to power, or an open circuit.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Like I said, it comes on and turns off after a while and then comes back on again. Could it possibly just be the harness? I cleaned my MAF and even got another one and cleaned it too and still get the code. Also if it matters, I get terrible city gas milage (11.8-12 mpg).

Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
I had a similar problem with mine where it would lose power due to a fualty connector. I eventually had to rebuild the connector on the harness with new terminals. When it happened my car would sometimes flat stall out on me in the middle of traffic.

Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
Just replaced the harness on mine I had the same code go to trhe dealer heres the part number for harness it 22 dollars ACD#pt1604 also GM# 88986451, also do this testturn the car on let it idle with the ses light off of course grab the connector on the maf sensor wiggle it the light should come on faulty harness
Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
I do not remember how the f-body AIR system compares to the b-body but in the b-body the nuber one cause of MAF codes is a faulty AIR system. At hard throttle the condensation in the pump gets blown back up into the air filter box and sucked through the MAF, rusty stains in the intake trat and MAF are a sure sign. Maybe you already yanked the AIR I do not know but it is worth a look if you AIR is still in place.
Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
While my car was running, I tried wiggling my MAF harness and the motor started stumbling and almost died. I think I found the problem!!! Thanks a bunch guys..
Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
For some reason, the 96/97's have a frequent problem with the pink wire that supplies +12V to the MAF sensor. Since the same circuit provides power to a couple other items, and they continue to work reliably, it appears the "break" occurs in the harness somewhere after the other circuits have been connected. The problem is often corrected only by running a new wire from the fused source for the MAF circuit.
Re: Intermittent MAF trouble code
To me harness = wiring. What is the difference between the harness and wiring in your definition?
