intermittent fuel pump problems
intermittent fuel pump problems
'94 Z28 The car will run fine when running. I have parked the car 2 times in 10 days and it won't start. Fuel pressure guage will not register any pressure. I towed the car home both times and tried to start it again that night without any luck. I checked voltages at the relay and the rear bulkhead connector and they are working correctly. The next day the car will start with 44 psi fuel pressure.
Will the fuel pump behave in this intermittent manor?

Re: intermittent fuel pump problems
Mine did for about 3 months before it finally died.....94Z.....would be driving beautifully, shut it off and no fuel pressure. Eventually it started shutting off while I was driving......and then it just croaked.
Re: intermittent fuel pump problems
I had problems with mine at the ground for the pump and the sending unit. I crimped it down and made sure it was tight and I haven't had a problem since. Mine would never kick back on without my fixxing it though.
Re: intermittent fuel pump problems
On a pump that is starting to wear out, the brushes or the electric windings inside of it wear. if the pump stops in just the right place were it can't make a good connection it won't start, normally banging on the bottom of the tank will jar the pump enough to get it going. I would imagine when you towed it home and the car got moved that was enough to jar the pump. Normally you can beat on the bottom of the tank when someone is trying to start it and it will go. the pump is bad, not the actual part that pumps the fuel, thats why you have 44psi. it's in the electrical part of it. replace the pump.
