Inline fuel pump with stock one still installed?

I have problems with my stock fuel pump, it whines loudly and leaks fuel pressure. I wanted to change to an aftermarket pump, but dont feel like dropping my tank or cutting up my car. If I bought an inline fuel pump, could I set it up so it will work with my old pump still on the car? Has anybody done this, or have a link to a guide?

Thanks
Max

I'm not a genius on these cars, but from simple automotive knowledge that isn't going to help. If anything, it will probably hurt the factory fuel pump and result in failure of fuel delivery and lead to hurting something else. You can't use a pump to pull fuel from another pump, you'll run out somewhere in between eventually.

In-line pumps are commonly used with initial supercharger and nitrous kits. They can supply fuel under high pressure demands (i.e. 80 psi needed for FMUs) that the stock fuel pump can't deliver. But I don't think they'll solve you issue with a dying stock pump. I suggest you drop the tank and solve the problem properly.

What are you going to do when your stock pump dies completely? Then how will your in-line pump get any fuel to pump?

Maybe I asked the question wrong. I want to cut power to the stocker and mount an inline in a more accesible place. My question is can I somehow leave the stock pump in an "open" position so fuel could flow freely though it, and be pumped by the inline?

Re: Inline fuel pump with stock one still installed?

You can not leave a "non-operating" stock pump in the system, and expect the inline pump to pull fuel through it. It will act like a big blockage (there is no "open" position). That drops the pressure to the inlet of the inline pump, and if you drop the pressure low enough, the fuel will vaporize and you will get little in the way of flow out of the system.

Thanks for the advice guys. I figured it wouldn't work, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I guess I'll just have to change the fuel pump like everyone else when it finally dies.
