idle problem

The car is having a weird time idling. It stays near 1300 on the tac. And sometimes will go down to normal idle around ~900-800. When reved it will sometimes almost die when returning to idle. The car is a 6 speed.

It started after i changed the intake gasket and got everything back together.

I thought it might been the egr box thing that has 2 hoses, one going to the side of intake, one to the egr valve in the back, because i broke the plastic tubes. I fixed it with some hose i slipped over it and connected it all back up.

The problem still persists. I think i hear a vacuum leak but i've checked everything several times to make sure it was firmly on. I even took off the throttle body cleaned it and used some cleaner in the IAC also. Still nothing.

Anyone have this problem before? Or car to take a guess?

I think you are on the right track in that it could be a vacuum leak. Old trick is to spray starting fluid at suspected leak areas and see if the engine changes RPM due to sucking the fluid in. Be careful not too spray to much and on hot surfaces as it could be a fire risk. Maybe you broke that hard plastic EGR tubing up inside the flex tubing where you can't see it?

Ok the hissing sound was fixed. It was a bad injector o ring. Started it up and it seemed fixed. Drop it around the block and its doing it again.

Guess i might have to try the AIC now. When started it goes to 2k rpms for a few seconds then slowly works its way down to idle

What do you mean by "drop it around the block"?

It sounds like the IAC is trying to compensate for another problem causing the idle to run high.

You might want to replace the vacuum line to the "egr box thing" (EGR vacuum solenoid), rather than relying on having "slipped ... some hose over it". Could be the source of the vacuum leak.
