I think most gas pumps are required to have some sort of vapor recovery system. (at least here in ca)
Yeah, the fact that you live in California dawned on me after I clicked "submit" Here in god's country we don't have funky pumps. As a matter of fact we use gasoline outdoors as often as possible

My window didn't go all the way up. I put a new motor and it was still slow. Then I conditioned the weatherstripping with dielectric grease and it's like I put a shot of n20 on the window, it just zips up now!!!!

Anyway, stop raggin on the car it's not that bad. Personally I really like my car, after my mom's 91 lexus it has been the most reliable (other car is a ford with millions of problems, my brother has a 89 lx notchback with problems too). And on top of that, I can take my brothers mustang HARD in second gear while he is in first.

You just got to know your car, know trouble spots, do preventative maintenance, and don't do stupid **** and it should work fine... I hear so many people complaining about burnt wires and all kinds of BS problems. Oh I was scratching my *** and I forgot to put in my new brake pads and I messed up my brakes. Stupid Fbody! It's like come on you morons it's just like any other car. In fact, I find the simplicity in the design quite soothing.

Car never leaked anything after I fixed the intake oil leak. I get 260-270 miles to the tank with a blown, injectored, and aux. fuel pumped (soon to be walbro 340) ws6. That's mix city/highway. Man I think I have said enough.

I know you are all venting, ehhh, later.

Why why why. I want to pop the trunk, not unleash all of my parking tickets. Again, I just want an easy to reach button. That is all.
One of the reasons I had to get a 97 camaro.

27) Heavy, unresponsive steering wheel.

The steering wheel in my thirdgen was much better. Actually the whole steering "feel" was better. The large heavy wheel makes it feel like I'm driving a boat.
it might be a little stiff but that just means you dont have to screw around with it constantly to keep the car on the road. my moms grand pre any my dads Z71 both have that incredibly sensative steering and its really a PITA on the highway.

33) center console
Not an engineers fault, just plain cheapness.
plastic man.. its the way of the future! ever been in a newer mustang?.. they make our cars look like a caddy.

35) fuel tank again

I hate when the fuel tank "burps" when Im pumping gas. Spilling gas over my paint and on the ground. Should have included a pressure relief hole near the nozzle.
never happened to me....

I just don't see what everyone is complaining about. If you didn't want to have majority of the problems than you could drive like an old lady on Sunday. But since we are all here for one reason and one reason only which is high performance we must work on our cars. If that means shedding a little blood, sweat and tears so be it. At the end of the day when your cruising by yourself or with a beautiful girl next to you listening to music or just getting on the thing and blowing the doors off all the ricers and little ponies out there it is an unexplainable feeling. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Besides look at all the F-body clubs, members, boards, etc and all the friendships made across the country and you'll realize it is all worth it. It is a way of life and always has been since the first Yenko.

Ever put a water pump in an '85 Rivera? No walk in the park there either. After having done that a few times, glad the opti only blows up once in awhile.

So for the '97 Trans;
*********************
Both headlight motors and drivers side window motor... under warranty. Not a problem since.

Transmission replace...under warranty at 50K.

T-top leaks, only when there's a monsoon.

Gas gauge... I get paranoid when it's below half on any vehicle I drive.

Interior "night light". Doesn't matter... I don't know where I'm going and none of the roads are labeled in Pa anyway.
***********************

Bottom line, though, if I ever need to do any serious work on the car, there's always a fellow f-bod owner around who'll stop in, fix the problem, drink all the beer and have a general goof off time in the process. Seems to me some of the "problems" are just excuses to have the "leave us alone in the garage" thing going.

I enjoy my car greatly though and wouldn't trade it in for anything else. Everything I have owned has had it's pros and cons. But only this vehicle can I go out on the street and put it sideways burning tires without any effort and laugh.

Jeez, I even gave the "stupid" car it's own website; www.97transam.com. I need help! Buahahahaha...

Cool

Whats everybody complaining about body malfucntions.Does anybody really read thier owners manual? In there it tells you that:
you must lubricate the window stuff(Die-electric greese on the weather stripping)
you must lubricate the DOOR HINGES with motor oil every 7,500 mi.
You must lube the automatic trans shift linkage=engine oil
you must lube the clutch linkage pivot pionts=engine oil
floor shift linkage=engine oil

Hood latch assembly=engine oil
Headlight door assemblies(birds)engine oil
rear compartment lid hindges=engine oil

Man the list goes on and on.Might pick up the owners manual and get a grasp on the car you are driving.
You must ask yourself, and really think hard,Would I really be happier driving another vehicle?
One of my customers owns a new Volvo suv for almost a year now. When it runs,it runs great. It's been in the shop over 6 times this year because it's a piece of doggie do do.(can you say $700 a month car payments plus insurance, and time lost?)
The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
There,I vented.My02
