how to test plug wires?!?

after installing my long tubes, about 2 weeks ago i installed a set of MSD wires. they already had the opti ends made, i needed to make the plug ends. everything went pretty easy, but the car runs BAD!! i have a friend that has a little scanner tool thing that you can pretty much test everything with. so we tried testing the wires... so we put the little plastic clip around the wires.... and had NO idea what the readings meant. we were looking at the "frequency" going through the wires i guess. does anybody know what that number should be? or how consistant it should be? some of my wires bounced between 18-24... and others 5-8. doesnt sound right at all!! but anyways... my friend was up in CT and now im back in FL. is there anyway i can test my wires myself with some sort of simpler tool?? what could i have screwed up making the wires?? the conductor is making contact with the crimp, so i dont know whats wrong and i also couldnt get some of the opti ends to "double click" when puting them on. could this be a problem? any help would be appreciated!

Check resistance end to end with an ohmmeter.

yeah thayts pretty much the only way to do it, but that test till only tell you if its bad, It wont tell you if its good (do you see what im saying?) it can test fine with that test and still be a defective wire, I had one like that that tested same as all of the others on a 2002 honda civic. but if you put it up against the valvecover the spark would short to ground. Visial inspection look for headers touching the wires or exhaust leaks. those are 2 common problems after header installs, or burnt O2 wires or you could have cracked the O2 if you screwed it in too hard.
