what to torque arp main studs at?

i have pro gram 4-bolt main splayed caps(studs in the middle and regular main bolts on the side) and i dont know what to torque them at.do you torque the studs different from the bolt that goes in the side of the main?i know you cant torque them at 77 ft.lbs because it would snap the 3/16 hex bit off the socket every time or is there a special tool that you use to torque the studs? thanks for any help

If you spent the money to have splayed main caps, get the caps done correctly. Use a stretch gauge and ARP assembly lube.

Do you mean torquing the studs into the block?

According to APR, they only go in finger tight. The torque is for the nut. The 3/16 hex just makes it easier to turn them down.

Try this link:

http://www.arp-bolts.com/media/pdf_f...9-31_36-37.pdf

It needs Adobe Acrobat to read it.

FWIW, one of the reasons to use studs, is that they don't distort the threads in the block during installation like a torqued bolt does. All of the tightening loads exerted by the nuts are on the hardened threads on the studs, not the relatively soft threads in the block. The block threads just take the pure tension load from the stud.

BTW, this is a very active forum. You might consider waiting a little longer for a reply before you start a second thread.

My $.02
