How much should I be paying for Plugs & Wires Install?

I need to have my plugs and wires changed on my 97 Z28. How much should I be paying to have that done? Thanks

You don't want to do it yourself?
It's a great learning experience

The shop will probably charge by the hour, hopefully they are quick
As much as I hate doing plugs, I hate spending hard earned cash on
projects I can do myself even more.

i would feel bad giving ONLY a 12 pack for plugs and wires on an LT1. I think it would have to be an entire truck full of them AT LEAST

First time I did a full tuneup on my z it took me 6 hours in total. What a pain in the butt that was. Now that I know exactly what to do and my LT's are in it will take much less time. I would just say do it yourself that way you don't waste money.

That sucks.

Well, a local shop should be able to do it.
It'd probably be cheapest at a small non-chain shop.

If there is a local Fbody club, check their board for memebers who
work for beer and pizza or at least will do it for a small amount of cash.

Well, if you go to a dealer they will look it up in their little book and tell you the labor cost. Figure maybe 4.5 hours at 68.00/hr = $306.00.
Add to that the cost of plats (which would be the OEMs) at around $48.00/set and a set of wires, probably around $50.00 for OEM and you get the picture. Around $400 +-.

I may be wrong, but probably close.

You should be able to get a better deal on aftermarket plugs and wires and of course, if you do it yourself---no labor costs.

I would first check out the dealer costs, and then compare them with a "reputatble shop----familiar with the LT1 F-Body and go from there.

If you don't have the tools or the know how, I sure would have someone else do it. Someone you trust. One positive for Dealerships---you gott'em if they screw up or it takes them longer than the book says.

The question always comes up with individual shops: did they put in 7 plugs and call it good, since you probably wouldn't bother to check out the 8th one to see if it was actually there.

Bottom line: If you know you need plugs and wires---you know your options. On the other hand, if you don't really need the plugs and wires at this specific time, put it off until you can get a good deal, and instead go out and drink some beer. JMHO

Re: How much should I be paying for Plugs & Wires Install?

I think Mitchells and All Data put the job at 5.2 hours or something. Also dealers use a hours matrix that a friend showed me. It was pretty interesting to see how the stealerships get you on the labor.

Where are you located? Doing plugs and wires aren't hard to do just time consuming and can be frustrating if you don't have the right tools.
