What is the easier/cheaper way to go?
They are pretty close in price and both are available as a "bolt-in". The 9" is stronger, heavier, and less mechanically efficient. It is easier to work on a 9". OTOH, a 12-bolt seems plenty strong for a car running a 10-10.5" tire, as almost everyone does.

I use a 12-bolt on mine.

3 years in the 12's...2 of them with ET Streets. mid 1.7 60 ft. times until this year with the 9.5" 3800 stall...Now it pulls 1.67 60 ft. Still running the original 95,000 mile posi unit with Motive 4.10's that were put in 3 years ago.

It'll be Richmond spooled next year...With a good set of axles. (Time for the 150 shot)

What's the best way to contain ~400+ rwhp reliably?
Well in my case...after the grenading I found out the axle housing was snapped as well as the internals trashed. Ive seen people weld the axle tubes for added strength and use a T/A Girdle. That with some strong internals.. I dont see why one couldnt last a lil while with some decent HP going thru it.

Like mentioned, HP really doesn't matter. It's how hard you hook.

Generally, the lower your 60', the greater risk at tempting fate. Then again, you need some good HP to pull some good 60's.

I'm pulling high 1.7x 60's all day long, and the (current) rear is holding nicely. Others don't have similar luck.
LTLHOMER ran 1.6x 60's all day long yesterday at M8 on his stock 3.73 rear without any damage. Unfortunately, his his damn A4 POS tranny couldn't make a descent 2-3 shift without a half dozen bounces off the rev limiter, so he didn't break into the 11's.

Critter....

A guy in Sherman did do the exhaust, but it was one of those "I want this pipe ran here, that pipe between here kinda thing.." Not too sure you have enough engine to support that kind of exhaust anyways....might sound like a rice rocket!

Bryan....

I scattered the engine, GM Powder Metal rods don't hold up too well, I blew it up on the Dyno....Still in the market for a rear end though, wanna sponsor me yours?

Thanks for all the info and replies guys..
