Question How difficult is it to replace the steering rack??

Did a search and didn't find much? My steering rack is going, I have ALOT of play in the wheel and while stopped going left to right quickly back and forth you can hear it clunking. So, I'm just curious if this is a pretty straight forward job or not. Also how much would this cost?

On a side note, are there any quicker ratio steering racks out there for an LT1 fbody? I like do autox every now and then and a quicker rack would be nice. Oh, I have a 97 Z28.

Thanks for any help!

On an LT1 car, its very easy. Only thing holding it on are 2 bolts through the k member, the tie rods, and the 2 fluid lines. Takes under an hour. LS1 isnt so easy. one of the k member bolts wont clear the engine block.
No idea on the quicker rack though. would be nice if they had one.

Great, thanks for the reply! So this can be done with regular hand tools? Is there anything I should be aware of, oh and maybe a stupid question... do you need to get an alignment afterwards for possibly messing up the toe?

yes u will need alignment also when you bleed the system raise both wheels off the ground with the pass side being higher then the driver , bleedin sytem on the ground can cause premature failure

as far as unbolting it, it's breeze, putting it in and pulling it were quite the task though as it's a tight squeeze, especially on the side with the rubber. nothing that's that difficult though

naztyzs8 pretty much covered it though
