Any FI car has a huge advantage over a NA - those motors are designed to handle boost so modding them is very easy and effective.

Beating a stock 03 is doable with a decent HC lt1.
400 rwhp...never seen one do that stock...but have seen many make 380+rwhp/380+rwtq bone stock.

See the latest issue in a mag with a 04 Cobra, Lightning lower pulley swap, cai and slicks...that being all that was done running 11.6's@119...

HP TV did some dyno runs with one with a Pulley to up the boost and a hypertech programmer and it put down 427rwhp. I thought that was pretty impressive.
I don't think a H/C LT1 will hang with that but with a 75 shot it should be able to beat it.
I've seen some of the 600rwhp Dyno sheets with the Kenne Bell Super chargers on them and the dyno numbers are impressive but I've never seen one run at the track. I think a lot of those guys are dyno queens and I have seen videos of those engine letting go at around the 650rwhp mark

There's a lot more. Cobras are nice rides, but for the money you can build an LT1 to make a lot more power and customize the car however you want.

Growing up around turbo buicks most of my life makes me wonder why the f-body crowd hasn't realized the power and potential in turbos until just recently.

Re: How to beat '03 Cobra building on my mods

This whole it costs less to do that is rather wrong.

How much to buy a new, fully loaded LT1 when brand new and then get it to make the power these Cobra's are.

You can get new Cobra's for $27K, but $7K in it and make 600+ rwhp on pump gas.

It is all relative...comparing 10 year old cars that now cost what 10 year old cars to a new car is not apples and apples.

Why buy an LT1 when you can buy 5.0? Why buy a 5.0 when you can buy a old SBC setup?

Why buy a SBC setup when you can buy a BBC setup?

I see your point and ultimately it is ALL relative.

That is a good point...why build up anything other than 600+ BBC and turbo the thing...

I don't see any reason why a modded all motor LT1 couldn't hang with or beat a 03 Cobra. Dyno numbers really don't mean ****, so that shouldn't really come into play. I watched my buddies bolt on Formula (it's an LS1 car) that put 370 at the wheels put about 6 cars on a stock 03 Cobra. He then raced another 03 with all the boltons and the smallest pulley you can put on the stock blower. The Cobra was making over 460 at the wheels and they were side by side winding out 4th.

True, there are other factors....like weight for one. Aren't the Cobras like 3800#? I know the f-body is no lightweight either.

Well, if you could find one that is what they were selling for.

Gotta throw up the old b.s. flag. I seriously doubt it.

What exactly are you doubting? There are a lot of factors such as weight and driver skill that also go into racing. I am going by what the drivers of the Cobra's themselves said about what exactly was done to the cars. If you are doubting that then fine, I have no way of proving what they had done and what power they made. But if you are doubting the outcomes of the race, then you can put the bs flag away. I was watching them both along with a bunch of other people. My buddy put a complete *** whooping on the stock 03 and the modded one had maybe a bumper on him winding out 4th. Both races were from a dead dig. After the race when the modded Cobra (nice guy) was talking to us about his car, he told us what he had done and he was quite surprised when he heard what was done to my buddy's car.

Yeah, the Cobra is pretty heavy. It probably had a couple hundred pounds on my buddy's Formula. That was my whole point in not comparing dyno numbers to say one car can't beat another. I'm glad you noticed that!
