Re: hot cam compression test

Do a leak down test. It will tell ya more about the wear on the engine.

I think thats what ya are asking..

Re: hot cam compression test

I know it will tell me more but the car is a hour and a half away. I was going to do a comp test just as a check just looking for a #.

Re: hot cam compression test

There is no one number that you can look for in a compression test. The objective is to see how closely the 8 cylinders match. You will get a huge variation in results, based on engine temperature, how wet the cylinders are, how strong the battery is, how many times you crank it, whether you remove all the plugs and block the throttle blades open, etc. I've seen people report anywhere from 150-195psi on a healthy LT1. The goal it to have the cylinders close to each other.
