high volume oil pump

Has anyone ever heard of a High Volume oil pump, sucking all the oil out of the pan and starving the motor for oil? I recently put a new pump in my motor, I drove it for about 20 miles and then it started knockin, I pulled the motor back out and found all the crank bearings shredded or badly scoared, I inspected the rest of the motor and everything seemed to be ok, very little scoaring on the cam bearings, so I replaced crank, bearings, rodbearings, cam and cam bearings, now im ready to close her back up but I dont know about the high volume oil pump? should I find a stock pump? I bought the HV pump from advanced auto, they told me it replaces the stock unit? I have no mods to the motor

There are a million threads on the high volume pump sucking the pan dry issues. Yes it hapens. It has been determined that it is essential to use a larger oil pan with the high volume pump.

Do a search on high volume oil pumps.

It can happen.

I run an HV pump with a Milodon 30909 pan.

If you're running stock bearing clearances, stick a stock / standard volume pump back in it and call it a day.

At least for '96, the stock "high pressure" oil pump is good for pretty much every application unless your primary income is from racing.

What are the stock bearing clearances you are referring to?
At what increased clearance should one upgrade to the 10% higher flow pump?

My R&M's are at .0025.

Make sure you have the stock windage tray installed. THAT is the problem with most oil starved motors. (the crank wind pounding on the oil supply).
